Hi Dean - Thanks for posting this video! I'm from America and have been visiting the area this week for the first time. I was looking online last night for a walk that was both scenic and challenging and came across this video of yours. Great information provided and I was able to follow your route as outlined except I went up the face and down the side of Shutlingsloe. Being unfamiliar with this area, it was very helpful to be provided with some visual checkpoints to know that I was indeed on the right path. The waterfalls were stunning, the ascension to Shutlingsloe was intense and that last climb up through the valley to the crossroads at Danebower Hollow was no easy feat, at least for me (and a bit of an unexpected surprise)! What a workout but enjoyed every step of the way and continued the walk past The Cat and Fiddle back down to Buxton. You helped make my last day in Buxton quite memorable! Thanks again!

+mhaugen1 Thank you for watching and I'm so glad you had a great time on this walk. Thanks for letting me know how you went while following the route. That climb up to Shutlingsloe gets the heart rate up doesn't it :-) Hope you've had a great time in the UK, safe travels back to the USA. All the best, Dean

Hi Dean. Another cracking place to start...I love them bridges as their are so many crossing and stories involved there. And what can I say about the Curlew...the most transcendent sound. Lots near me. Nice and still...a beautiful day for you. Interesting name Shutlingsloe and as you say great views. I think instates they would call that Honesty shop Trail Magic. The release...great stuff. All the best. Mark.
@WyeExplorer8 жыл бұрын
Dean Read Hey there Dean...yeah the Curlew and that place you speak of sounds divine. Here we listen to them on a huge flood plain that's a haven for wild fowl. Beautiful! Trail Magic? I keep watching them Appalachian Trail videos and dream like you. I reckon you can make it and will one day even just for a section. Now that's something to think about! The fly tipping is still on...Can't let that one go. ATB Mark.

+Wye Explorer Hi Mark, I'd love to do the 100 Mile Wilderness section of the AT as it looks and sounds absolutely spectacular... One day, one day I'll do it :-) I'd not realised until recently that the Curlew stick to coastal regions all year round, for some reason I thought they migrated here from further afield. I should have checked the RSPB website sooner :-) glad you are sticking with the fly tipping report, will be interesting to see the process unfold. All the best, Dean
@WyeExplorer8 жыл бұрын
Dean Read Yes Dean a section is probably more on the cards. The wilderness section is most certainly one to get in during your lifetime. The Curlews? I've learnt something new. Thanks for that. And the fly tipping is a story unfolding for sure. Have a great week...off to Mid Wales - lots of exploring. Mark.

+Andrew Seadon hi Andrew thanks for watching, it is a rather steep climb up that side of Shutlingsloe :-) I've never approached from the other side so I'll have to give that a go through the forest I can see on the map. Hi Dean.. Thank you for a wonderful guided tour - impressive ornithological skills my friend - Curlew? Bird? well had to google it ;) Great to follow you along the route. I remember the beautiful three shire heads waterfall - but I haven't seen this particular route before? Sure is beautiful - made me want to lace up my hiking boots immediately after a long winter. I could nearly sense spring from here.. as one great poet said: "I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter's tough, but spring's coming. I believe that there's a growing season. And I think that you realize that in life, you grow. You get better." ATB

Is Viewranger any good? Would you recommend it? Do you use the premium version? I have Apple Watch too. Cheers mate
@DeanRead8 жыл бұрын
+Jon Davies Viewranger is a great App John, I've been using it since it first came out many moons ago. I've purchased lots of Ordnance Survey maps over the years through it so have all the areas I walk regularly covered. I'm not sure what the Premium version offers but I did pay for mine initially and you got map credits in with the deal to purchase what you like. They do some great deals for National Park map packages. It's been a great app for me over the years and I wouldn't fancy moving to another, can't fault it. It doesn't crash and is very reliable now days, had a few issues around 2-3 years ago but it's fine now. The Apple Watch App is ok, only really for when you are following a plotted track so I rarely use it if I'm honest. Thanks for watching the video, ATB Dean

Hello, I stumbled upon your channel after our visit to Edale, looks like we missed a lot of wonderful stuff so we will have to do it again one day, hopefully next month. Anyway with my camera I took a few HD videos, now just one of them which was 1 minute and 35 seconds long took me 35 minutes to upload!!! my question is...... are there more dedicated Internet Service Providers that will let you upload videos much much more quickly as it is putting me off wanting to upload anything? (I'm currently with Sky).
@DeanRead8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Aitchison Hi Richard, thanks for watching. It's all about the upload speed of the connection. I'm currently with Sky and we have their fibre broadband so a 20 minute video uploads in about 20 minutes. We did have their standard broadband and that was terrible, it would take over 24 hours to upload a 20 minute video before. All my videos are 1080p and are usually around 1 to 2 gig file size so I'd advise upgrading with Sky or switching to another fibre provider to get faster upload speeds. Thanks again for watching, ATB Dean
@pingu007288 жыл бұрын
+Dean Read Thanks for the reply, unfortunately my street cannot get fibre yet, though i have been trying other options such as video editors to compress the file size more without losing too much detail, and changing camera settings to the 720p instead of 1080p.
@DeanRead8 жыл бұрын
+Richard Aitchison Fingers crossed you can get fibre soon. I'm sure 720p will still look good. I was having to upload at 720p in Thailand last year due to the same problems with slow internet.
