It's a little moment, but a stellar piece of DMing - upon seeing that the hat situation had provoked a bigger emotional reaction from Ellen than he'd expected, he gave her a peril with some consequence (the fire) instead of forcing a dice roll to grab the hat. It would have been easy and possibly even instinctive to ask for a Dex check, but Johnny realised the emotional damage of failing that roll would be unconscionable and it would have only detracted from the drama of the moment. Mad respect for recognising that and coming up with an alternative.

Why do I have the feeling though, that he still has some very evil plans ahead? Lest we not forget that in "Out Of Order" he asked Eggbert (Mike) what his Wisdom modifier was, only to later have him roll a seemingly unrelated flat d20 roll. A sneaky but beautiful way to have someone save against a Scrying spell without tipping them off to it.

I don't think the dragon is the evil that was disrupting nature's balance, though. For starters, dragons wouldn't disturb the balance the way necromancers would. Also, Binbag new of the dragon, since he warned the party not to wake him up, yet he didn't know what the danger was.

@@Integer_Overload Johnny is adapt at thinking on the fly. They once missed an important clue on an adventure and he proceeded to spend 10-15 mins coming up with stuff like it was planned. I believe it's the furniture adventure. I said that to say that if they did take him out quietly chances are the Dragon would've been the evil and they would've had to come back at some point to kill it. Still I love Johnny as a DM

Yeah you can tell that Johnny has a tough time at live shows since he has to balance letting the crew do wacky and zany shit while still keeping them within a fairly strict timeframe and presenting at least a semi-coherent plot. Given that the necromancer guy was a relatively new development on that mountain (a few months as opposed to the dragon's possibly centuries), and necromancy is by definition screwing with the balance of nature, it's a safe bet that the necromancer was the Great Evil. Plus, he was wearing Simon as a hat which exactly zero members of the party would be willing to forgive. Having an evil alignment doesn't necessarily always mean they are *the* Evil in a quest

She hoards the belongings of dead adventurers who failed the manor challenge, based on when she asked if she could have their stuff if/when they died. And if another dragon gives her that kind of respect, that must mean she’s an old and powerful dragon... Hopefully she doesn’t die from the adventures in time to give the Oxventurers some help in the grand finale fight against Leliana!
