These recent videos are absolute gold. I wish someone had taught me this 20 years ago. We used to just go heavy every day leading up to a meet and then take a few days off right before competing.

Thx for all you do! As a masters 59 year old powerlifter the recovery is most important. For me I dead/pull on Saturday - bench/push on Monday - squat/lower on Wednesday - abs Thursday light accessory work. As for peaking, I’ll generally do about a 7-8 week peaking block with a deload in the middle, and a 8-10 day taper. So for the purpose of this post it’s about 10 weeks - previous to that I’ll do 4-6 weeks of a little higher volume with percents been about 70 and 85 percent.

Thanks! I recently had the fire of a 600 pound squat lit under me. I'm at 4 plates right now so that's a long way off. But, suddenly all the periodization ideas make sense. Like, I don't need to worry about whether I'm doing 5x3 at 80% or 4x2 at 85%...I need to add 3 inches on my quads before I worry about that stuff. Lots of leg press, front squats, bulgarians, and leg extensions. I don't need to worry about peaking until I can do a 5x10 with my current 1rm. It's a large enough goal that I can relax; I don't need to worry about ratios, I just need to get big. And then once I'm big, I can spend 6 months or a year sharpening the blade. And then when it's time to make it happen I can spend 2 or 3 months preparing. Going from 365 to 385 is hard because you kinda feel like you should be doing everything all at once, but this goal is SO far away that I have the peace of mind of "I'm not ready yet."

I love these videos. I’d only bring up that a variety of factors come into these peak phases. Being an older masters lifter (59) my volume needs to be low because of recovery. Personally I like to squat - deadlift and Bunch once a week. On my fourth day is a light accessory day.

It’s that lifter that hurt himself doing tricep extensions Mark Bell? I seem to remember something like that happening 😂

man i know you probably intended to make this simple and easily digestible, but it's the having the exact opposite effect with me. ive watched the vid 3 times now and still feel confused.. think im gonna move on

I understand this stuff can be confusing! I’d suggest joining his app or purchasing a program from a trainer you know/trust/follow. As you go through the program, take notes, pay attention to the way the program is designed and how it works for you and your goals. This will help you learn your body and how to program. Just remember to keep things simple and follow the concepts of progressive overload. Simple works

Yeah should be quick 5-10 min videos and not insanely long documentaries

thanks, but i'm 13 weeks out from my next meet. i dont have time to dilly dally. and im not purchasing an app from someone who cant explain things in a digestible way.. progressive overload is elementary stuff, prep and peaking for competition, is not..
@sonderbass6 күн бұрын
@@inzer0 sorry I should have assumed you were specifically looking for peaking… my comment was after watching the other two videos about hypertrophy and strength building before watching this third and final video in the series. If prepping for a meet, and specifically peaking, yes there is more specificity and complexity than progressive overload!
