Went there way back in early 2016. Some of this footage is simply nostalgic to me, to the point I can smell what it was like when I was there (still a kid but still ripping).

Some context for the Powder Chair detachable comment. Powder Chair is a fixed grip rather than a detachable because it is short compared to other lifts at Big White and because the ski terrain it serves can’t handle the volume of a detachable. While the uphill capacity of a fixed grip is the same the chair stores riders in the air rather than having them on the ground. So yes a skier gets less runs per hour which drastically improves the conditions on this smaller pod of terrain in early and late season. Love your vids you guys are doing a great job.

One of our best family vacations was to Big White. The fact that every chair has at least a blue run down meant it was much more comfortable skiing as a family, as we could split up and meet back at the lift, and you could peek at what made a run black and decide if it was for you. Great place.

I’m spending my third winter skiing here this winter. We get a lot of snow here. The lack of steep terrain and the bad visibility are my only complaints but even then if you go in the trees and know the good spots you can always have a good day. Also, rather than skiing out from the bottom of cliff you can just take the chair up again and get down a different way.

So harsh on getting to Big White, video needs an update: Big White is very easy to get to from USA: direct flights from LAX & SEA to YLW (Kelowna airport). Also direct flights from nearly all Canadian major cities. Other worldwise direct flights into YVR or CGY have connections that are less than 90 min in length. And from YLW it is only a 60 min drive or shuttle bus to Big White. Once here, you will find the visitors and the locals are very friendly and welcoming.

I've been skiing at Big White for nearly 20 years. Fantastic glade skiing, great accommodations, amazing snow conditions and basically zero lift lines on weekdays let me escape the whole world and just spend day after day surfing powder all day long.... no congestion, no waiting, no hassles. Last time I was at Whistler, I waited 2 hrs to get to the lifts in the morning. Screw that.

The BC interior is somewhat protected by lack of nearby international air support, but enjoy for now because the perpetual posting by armies of social media creators has already created bucket list congestion at many locations - over tourism is the new normal. (side note: remember when they bombed the cliff & took out the platter lift - oops!)

I went for a week last year. Loved it. I'm expert but all levels would enjoy. Perfect for families and mainly intermediate. Never had major white outs but plenty of tree runs so don't see how that would be a major. Great service from airport pickup to drop off. Easy connection, Great village. Just go. It's quality. I'd also try the other family one close to Kelowna. Sun peaks.

Lived in Kelowna from 2010-2016 and loved Big White! Used to get the student season pass for ~$450 CAD and went up all the time. Get up, go to my 8am class, out at 9, rip up to BW for 10 and ski all day. Snow is incredibly consistent and reliable, though visibility definitely isn't. The road up there can get super sketchy as well, they actually do winter rally racing events up there which says a lot. There's also a guy who runs the pierogi stand at the Black Forest lodge who treats that road like his personal rally stage in his van, he's almost run me off the road multiple times lol wonder if he's still there.

When I was like 14 I watched a video "Skiing and Snowboarding at Big White Beginner to Pro" that introduced me to both Big White and the song Rasputin by Boney M. I always wanted to go from there, and in 2022 planned a trip with 8 friends out there, first international travel since the pandemic. Definitely a weird place to go on a big trip but a pretty fun time!

As someone who already has 37 days this season at Biggie I agree with most of this video. Big Whites terrain is very diverse and has something for everyone but the poor vis and also high winds (especially on the Gem lake side) are an issue. I'd also say a lot of the accommodation is quite dated and doesn't offer the best value for money although it is great that everything's ski in, ski out. Regarding the après, it is true that it's mostly quiet and family oriented but if people are looking to party then the bar Snowshoe Sam's is pretty lively on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays but mainly with the working holiday crowd rather than locals.

Biggest gripe is the on-mountain amenities for enjoying a night out. No parking at any restaurant, and the main gondola back to the parking lot closes at 9pm. If you stay outside of the village core, be ready for a long walk back after drinks, or leave before 8:30pm. Definitely think they’re going for “family bed time” vibes.

True somewhat. But if you hike Big White Summit there is plenty of Steep skiing....Short but steep. And rarely anyone skiing there consistently. 😊I grew up skiing at Whistler...Blackcomb...Awesome there...but the line ups are all time...and run get tracked out in less then our...There is also plenty of Whiteouts at Big White...But you learn to ski on those days too.😮

I Prefer Silverstar out of the two. Silverstar and Big White are side by side. Vernon is the closest town basically at the base. 20-30 min drive from resorts Great hotels in Vernon. I Recommend (Prestige Vernon Lodge - Has a river going through it!!), But you can't beat that mid Mountain lodging on those resorts. You can get Direct flights to Kelowna from Seattle(SEA) and Los Angeles(LAX) Through Alaska Airlines. You can get Direct shuttle bus to Silverstar, or Vernon from Kelowna Airport from (Kelowna Concierge) they run Daily, usually always spots.

@dootdoot1867
@dootdoot1867 4 күн бұрын
@@Ty-ye6ny Not Really, Powder Gulch makes SIlvy have tons of varied terrain. The sizes are similar. The Question is more... Do you want to ski by Braille? Then Big white is for you. If you like Sun? Silverstar is for you. It's called Big White out for a reason, But you learn to love trees because of it. You can always find freshies because of the trees. But for most average skilled riders it is not better. SS village is undeniably better. The drive is better. The Overall weather is better, Tons of varied terrain. Way better spread out flow, Dedicated beginner area, Solid groomers. If you want a challenge You drive 2 hours to Revelstoke and get ready to hike.
@Ty-ye6ny
@Ty-ye6ny 3 күн бұрын
@@dootdoot1867 Ya no question the village at Silver Star is better. I think Big White has possibly the worst village I've ever been to, it's terrible. The back side of silver star is pretty much useless though. Not much snow, and it's always icy 2' tall moguls. They really need to invest in a winch cat.
