From a non skier perspective: Timberline Lodge is quite a place to visit if you're a movie buff.

Less fun fact Timberline Day Lodge is where a very upset Borris Segal while filming World War Three with Rock Hudson made his last wrong turn brutally walking into the tail rotor of the helicoptor he just exited. I was the dishwasher in Cascade Dinning Room. Not a shining moment for t-line.

Great review! I grew up skiing the Mt. Hood area ski resorts and they're all a lot of fun and all offer very different experiences. Timberline has some absolutely massive plans for later this decade, and I can't wait for the gondola connection between Summit & Timberline, among other improvements!

I think it's also worth noting that Timberline is a hot spot for late-season race ski camps and teams, ranging from local teams to professionals. I know a decent number of people on my race team who have gone to hood before that said it was awesome. From what I know, a decent amount of the terrain off of Palmer in early June or so is set up for race training, but I have no personal experience to back it up. Great video! Palmer looks amazing.

spot on. i was just there the week of the 4th, and it was a bit of a pain getting around the ski racers, the areas on both sides of palmer were dedicated to ski racing for at least half of the day. i was with the high cascade snowboard camp, id have to push a good football field+ in distance on the top catwalk to get pass the ski racers. it was exhausting. once the racers would leave you could simply strap in at the top of palmer ride down and traverse over to the high cascade terrain park, but when the racers are there you cant do that because youd cut across their course.

It's important to note for those wanting to ski in the summer that the Palmer Icefield is usually separated into lanes. Ski camps exclusively occupy many of the lanes. So, you can't wander all over the icefield. However, one of the great things to do in the summer is to watch Olympic skiiers and snowboarders practice over and over again. Free to watch. As mentioned, the terrain park and half pipe are moved up slope in summer...these are really giant, and are for pro level...no beginner park, that's for sure! So, in summer, come, hike up to the Palmer lift and watch the action.

It used to be year round the glacier has melted to the point where they usually have to close down in mid August and can't re-open until November or December.

Creek beds are fun! But other than that, you’ll probably be a little disappointed during the winter. Most locals get their winter pass for the meadows and do spring here.

@1:34 That comment is misleading in that Stormin' Norman and Jeff Flood (along Magic Mile and Palmer) operate all spring season!? In fact, Stormin' Norman is the lift that services ALL the park riding in the Spring at Timberline.

Jeff Flood is already closed, and Stormin' Norman's last day is this Monday.

I turn 30 this year. I'm from Arkansas and my birthday is in June. I couldn't be happier a place like this exists in the summer. I don't really get that many chances to do my favorite activity in the world, especially not on my birthday.

I've been learning to ski and Timberline is my home away from home. I don't do anything at the lodge because it's overpriced and meh so I have nothing to say about that, but the 5 for resiliency seems weird considering there's a ton of terrain open to ski from november through may and it's basically always open. Also good to note, you can skin/bootpack up above the clouds often, and are greeted with the most incredible views of an undercast valley. I definitely would say it's a place to go if you want to get a mix of park and traditional runs, and probably isnt' nearly as fun if you aren't going to the park. But it's gorgeous, and the snow is almost always great. I'll agree though there isn't much "difficult" terrain, which I appreciate as a new skier, the length of the runs and the quality of the snow really makes up for it.

i was a timberline mgr for 12 years. i made hundreds of snowboarding videos there from the years 2005 thought 2021. it was a great time. first season i rode 200 days. as in a annual year. i did summer shred videos. winter pow videos. videos with other timberline employees all the time. i filmed burton snowboarding contests there on the deck of the half pipe. i was employee of the year for our dept 3 times. i made videos snowboarding as KISS. as a ninja doing weapons as i went down palmer. i filmed a zombie walking dead tribute snowboarding video there. and i did a bigfoot snowboarding video there. i would assume i made more timberline snowboarding videos than any other person in the history of mt hood. ad i am not joking. i left 3 years ago to move back to the midwest after 20 years in oregon. due to to many tourists. i got sick of them. well i was sick of them from day 1. so were all the other locals. they had to deal with it. as it is a job. but we were there for the shred. and our homies. not the tourists. eventually all my friends have left for the most part.

Wait so you haven’t been to timberline yet you’re saying meadows is way better? That’s cute. Tree runs and parks are much better at TLine. If all you care about is steeps, I guess meadows is your thing? It’s probably a better overall resort but not “way” better.

Just returned from one of the week long camps for masters. racing, and I have to say this Timberline is an awful place. They were running perhaps four dozen camps AND selling day tickets and waits on the two lifts were between one-half hour and an hour. Totally bogus set up where you got in two runs with the "instructor" before the snow turned to mush. And this was a weekday experience. It was a scam, please don't waste your money.
