“It aired on TV one time and never again.” This explains so much. I saw it with my dad when it aired, I was like 7 years old and for whatever reason I recall really liking it. Kept waiting to see it again every year but of course never did. As an adult I tried googling it a few times but since I couldn’t remember the title I had no luck on that front either. Then KZbin recommends me this video and I find out the movie was actually *bad* ... childhood nostalgia is weird, isn’t it?
@istheworldreal3 жыл бұрын
because children can be easily entertained. I mean when we are kids we are like blank canvas that does not know anything, we don't know if something is good, bad, etc, because we don't have much experience to compare said object that we currently see/do/etc with something else. That's why most old game that we replay sometimes feel lackluster etc, because we already try newer game with more fluid control, better UX or UI, etc

To be fair, most of the bad content is stuff like unrealistic motivations, incoherent themes, and illogical behavior. Not stuff that's easy for kids to notice. Hold on. The comment about "9 children" at the end is too suspiciously big of an error to overlook. Considering the other editing errors made throughout the movie, I think I have an idea of what happened. Originally, the plan was for there to be 7 kids in the orphanage from the start. They'd already animated several shots of the 7 kids together. Then, they later came up with the idea for the mother to bring her own two kids to contribute the crisis of one of the children going missing. That decision must have come up later in production and, since they already had so many shots of the seven kids together, they just decided to use two of those kids as the mother's kids and rewrite the beginning to include only 5 kids in the orphanage. This would explain why Lily randomly shows up with the other kids when the tree is about to be cut down, because it wasn't originally supposed to be her but a 9th child that got lost. It would also explain why they couldn't provide an explanation for why the mother's kids had to stay with the orphans instead of with their own mother. They'd already committed too many resources to there being 7 kids in the room. TLDR: There were originally supposed to be 7 kids in the orphanage alongside the 2 of the mother's kids, but ran into budget issues and decided to repurpose 2 of the orphanage kids as the mother's kids and the "9 children" comment at the end was an oversight.

@Jonah Tailor Or both, budget doesn't always define quality, it's how you use it.
@aurafox13 жыл бұрын
@Jonah Tailor Yeah, it's definitely a budgeting issue. It's not exactly a mistake that would happen without some form of rushing. It's not like the low budget has any impact on the reason for the mistake in the first place, just how the mistake wasn't fixed. I even included a TLDR line at the bottom that mentioned budget issues directly.
@derekfoster16403 жыл бұрын

I'm sorry that Helen Quirk (Mavilda's voice actress) was only in this movie, she was really putting an effort in this and was the only good one among all the characters (even Karen Drygas had a nice voice, but was so inespressive in Judy's role), she deserved better. "We come from the Mayor's" I can sense Saberspark having several PTSD attacks... and he's not alone, since this movie just became a regular meme in me and my friends and partners' group, I see those creepy kids everywhere and the more I see those smiles, the more I fear I'll get on Mrs Mavilda's side, at least she and her lover can live in peace now that she magically became good (at least I think Chainsaw Guy is her lover, or just sub. considering that she calls always him first for the help, he plays poker with her and and the cheater lady... Mavilda's smart enough to fool an entire city but loses her money against someone using five aces of heart at Poker...) and istantly accepts when she calls him to frame Judy and tells him something like: "It shouldn't be a problem (to put something in her car) with your *fast* *fingers* ..." and accepts to cut the tree and threaten Judy and the kids like she ordered. I love how the animation's budget went all into the bear fight (especially the bear's faces), Santa and Mavilda's scary expressions and how she, in a scene right before this last one, get behind the children and oly the lower part of her body appears on the screen before the rest magically appears from the nothing too; the children's voice are something so creepy (but I appreciate that they're dubbed by real kids with their cute stuttering), especially when Judy's stares out of the window and hear them scream: "Mooooommy!" and: "Mommy!" like they're more annoyed and pissed than everything else. Now, back to the real sadistic villain of the story, what kind of evil possessed Judy to make her create a WOODEN slide for the children?! Especially the little girls that have bare legs thanks to the dresses, how many splinters they got from those things that magically disappear from frame to frame? (Ah, that transition Mavilda-alarm at 12:49 is pure gold, I love it).
