We did Pear Lake yesterday. Thanks to you and your mom for sharing the beauty of this amazing hike. It's been on my list since I discovered your channel last year. Sadly it was a little too much for my husbands knees. So this will probably be the longest day hike we can do together. I really wanted to do Bluebird Lake but we'll have to try for a permit next year at Ouzel Lake. We have permits for Thunder Lake in early August. Going to do Box and Eagle Lakes too. The next morning going off trail and connect to the Lion Lakes trail and see everything up there before heading back.

Great video. Backpacking up to Finch Lake in mid-June and then try to snow shoe up to Thunder Lake. Enjoy your videos and have given me an idea of what I might be in for. Look forward to more videos.

Nick when my friend & I hiked to Pear Lake almost every time we saw grouse often with chick at the top of the initial climb just after one turns right on the u-turn headed to Finch Lake. We hiked to Pear the first time in the late ‘90s. We had avoided it for years because our hike reference was Dannon’s hike guide. He claimed Pear was not worth the time. We disagreed.

Today I ran into a summit register with your name (dated 10/3/19). No spoilers on the mountain but can't wait for the video to see what exact route you took. The rock and footing is really bad up there--especially since Thursday now that there is 3-6 inches of snow. Looks like no one climbed it after you until I did today.

You did that one! Awesome man, congrats! Yeah.. it's never summer up there anymore I bet. Haha. I went up via the red gulch and hit Red Mtn on the way. There are a thousand red mtns so I dont think I'm giving any spoilers away. Lol. I was gonna go around and come down Green but those ridges looked out of my league. So I literally exited straight down the south face back into red gulch. I didnt want to go back over the ridge to Red so I just straight down the side from damn near the top. I cant wait to do that video. Best blue sky day ever. One of the most epic hikes of the year for me.

@@nicksangetta8874 I went directly up the East face of Red which was torture (had to pull myself up using trees to avoid backsliding due to snow). Then across the long ridge to the summit. The southern drainage looked like the best approach based on what I could see. To return, I dropped into the northern drainage which was probably a mistake given that I ended up sliding down a frozen waterfall... I would have gone south myself but the route from the summit was snowy/sketchy and I didn't want to redo any of the ridge connecting to Red.

@@alquinn8576 Ahh yes.. I've done the east face of Red before. Freaking sucks! I'd say Red Gulch up to the saddle was a tad better but not by much. Super steep and I was grabbing stuff to pull myself up as well. Just not as long and not as loose. Im guessing you came up from Colorado River TH. I started from Holzwarth. That ridge was long going across up to the summit. So it sounds like you did what I did to exit but down the north side. Lol. I didnt want to go back over that ridge either. I was thinking about dropping down west side and taking the Baker trail out and around but that looked just as bad and a lot longer so I decided to play it safe and go back the way I came. I cant believe you did all that in the snow. That's hardcore man. It was a beautiful day though. I'm kicking myself that I didnt go out.

@@nicksangetta8874 CO River TH is correct. It was a perfect day (14F when I started but felt warm compared to the 7F on Saturday). Warmed up nicely though and not too much wind. I used to bushwhack through snow in the Snowy Range all the time so I'm used to it, and the quartzites in the SR are a lot more slick than the rocks in much of the front range. Not gonna lie though: I did fall down a lot on the slippery loose rock in Opposition Basin... Baker trail would have added 3-4 miles? I would definitely brave the bushwhack at that point.

@@alquinn8576 You are hardcore bro! I had my hands full in perfect conditions going across that ridge. Cant imagine doing it with snow or 14 degree temps. Then I bet the way you came down was even more crazy! I can see why only 3-4 people summit it per year. And some of those other mtns next to it look like big remote piles of rocks! Not very inviting..

Nick, are you sure those were coyotes? They looked like foxes
@nicksangetta88745 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure. The foxes are a little smaller. I see them all the time when driving through the canyon at night.
