I love your patience with Cisco, he seems to be a smart horse. I’ve loved horses since I was little, am now a trucker, over the road. For several years worked on a breeding farm & a grom at Garden State with a racehorse. Loving your teaching skills with the horses! Keep up the great job! ❤

This has been so educational, and it is so helpful that you explain everything that you do! I have a wonderful mare who I rescued fairly recently, and she is very heavy on her bit, and my reigns are quite a bit shorter (the length that you said not to have 😅), so I need to get some longer ones in addition to doing these exercises. We are very much still getting to know each other. She has not acted like she wants to rear or buck, but she is constantly bobbing her head even when I am as loose as I can be on the reigns.

I love how you explain each movement, helps a lot. Question tho, what would be the difference with using the flag, and just a carrot stick with a rope at the end?

The flag is a bit more of a signal, versus the stick and the string tends to be more direct pressure. The flag also can’t ever be strong as the stick and string can be. I also like the flag for close range work and to keep from getting the string and lead rope tangled.

Jake, why did you choose not to lay Cisco down, verse lay down with Remme? Second question- Is Cisco a horse for an VERY experienced rider… more of a 8-9 level out of 10? Love your training & having thoughtfulness for the horses. Carol

He never was extreme enough in his behavior that I felt it necessary. Everything we did first worked and was the least amount for the most gain. It sure would help him and be good for him I just didn’t need to. No his owner who isn’t super experienced but wasn’t bad learned to do great. After another month of training for him and then a month to for her riding one of my good horses we got them really going great. They go camping and trail riding now and do mounted police unit training together.

I noticed when you are lunging in the circle his nose is pointed out. Is this considered a negative behavior? Should they be looking at you when lunging? TIA.

Technically yes. But for this horses and where he is in sequence I can accept that and slowly chip away at that brace. Him learning to shape with a positive flexion is part of tying him around, and you can see the trouble that gives him. By the time he went home long term after two more months of time with us he had a much easier time with that piece of the puzzle. Thanks for watching!

yeah that is a common "ive watched too many horsemanship videos" response. The horse even with a good deal by good people was choosing bad/dangerous/problem behaviors. Yes with quality time and training by the appropriate person this was all fixed up and the horse has been extremely successful since his time with us. Maybe instead of that canned answer of "it's not a problem horse" you could actually watch, listen and note wow nice work helping that horse make it through...... It just shows that you don't really know when you make that comment. And whenever I talk about a "problem horse" I say it in a way or use air quotes to denote that it is a saying not that we actually think the horse is a problem.
