I still run a PS Cheetah That I put the extras and 24-40. Talk skip all the time. 3 pin is correct for PS mid-1970s. Had a bearcat from 1973. They always stand out in mind as the best at the time. Thanks for the video ! Always enjoy your videos! You might want to purchase a Variac to use to first power these old radios . You can then start with one volt A.C. and gradually move the voltage up to 110 volts over time and have a better chance of NOT letting the smoke out of it. Typically it's the electrolytic capacitors that have problems over time. That's where a lot of the smoke comes from when powering up for the first time . 73, Heath N4TWT

Definitely made by Uniden or formerly "Uni Electronics Corporation" prior to October 1974. The UNIden number is UT-123E which is on the main pc board and power transformer. The UT-123 chassis and it's variants are used in radios by Cobra, Regency and also the Pearce Simpson Panther SSB and Zodiac Taurus. The main ssb crystal filter is made by "Uni Electronics Corp" and there is an inspection sticker on the back panel which says "PASSED" with the old Uni logo under it.

Great radio! I'm new to the tech side of CB radios and I have a question. I have bought 5 handhelds on eBay and have a Uniden Pro510XL mobile unit I bought on Amazon. I was interested when you checked the wattage on your meter. I have a Truckers Series RPSWR-2 SWR Power meter I picked up on eBay to set my SWR on my antennas. On the meter where it displays power, I'm assuming that power is the wattage being pushed out when I key the mic. As a rule, are these types of meters pretty accurate? If so, my radios are putting out anywhere from 4 watts to 8 watts. I notice that the lower my SWR, the higher the output. The old handhelds put out more power than the new Uniden. I'll need to check the SWR for each CB. Thanks for the great videos. I'm learning a lot! I've ordered the materials to build a dipole antennae.
@MowerJunkie3 жыл бұрын
You are correct, with a low SWR the radio will perform better. when checking output the radio will show different results with each antenna You connect it to. This is one of the reasons Tech's usually use a dummy load to set up a radio. A dummy load is more stable and consistent. Good luck with Your Dipole, I hope it all works out for You.

Love this video! Question (probably a dumb question) - I noticed at the 18:20 mark in the video you did a transmit test and the transmit power was very low. You then transmitted again @ 19:09 and the power looked good. What did you do to get the power back up?
@MowerJunkie8 ай бұрын
lol, I just watched those two parts, and I just now realized that the meter starting working correctly on the 2nd test. it probably has a weak capacitor in the meter circuit that took a long time to charge up.

I have an old amp with an unconnected resistor like that but mine was covered to protect it from touching anything. I think maybe it helps reduce noise but that’s just a guess.

Works well for a crystal channelled set. Both TX and RX. It is just a nostalgia radio though. Might be worth something to a collector, though they are not very collectable yet they will be in a few years or so. You could convert it into a 40 channel set with an EPROM, but it is best left as is. There must be an adjustment for the TX meter inside it somewhere.
@MowerJunkie3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, the meter in the radio started working correctly after I replaced the broken Mod/Signal switch. I am probably going to resell the radio, But the Mic will remain in My collection. Thanks for watching, 73's from 151 SC.

I can bet 10 to 1 odds that somebody got into that radio and turned the VR for the ouput on the meter thinking it would give more power out , check the board around the VR's for the RF out printed on the board... A proper alignment would do that unit some good..... I got quite a few units a couple days ago my self....A chrome Connex CX-4300 HD and a Galaxy DX-45 MP along with a couple 2 meter handhelds, also some test equipment ..... Not enough room here to type all the stuff I got .... I might do a live stream and invite you up on the panel with me.....I'll let you know ahead of time tho.......Take Care buddy....
