Hey, not sure if I have mentioned this before (I have often had a few wines before I venture onto KZbin) but where is the merch with the slogo "It's a Dipthong Thing". I would definably buy a shirt if it was XXL and black with the writing in a metal style :)

This song is truly amazing. If you enjoyed that one I would say to check out the mtg live performance by Alive in Chain "Down in a Hole" but also read up a bit about what brought them to the performance, it's very sad and very powerful yet so beautiful.

I was lucky enough to have been born and raised in Seattle, growing up as a teenager in the 90's and we were so spoiled. The fit of the day was any sort of purple shirt with a green flannel over the top. Then a zip up hoodie with any band of the time. From the local bands to the top billing. Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Mother Love Bone (RIP Andy Wood Stardog Champion), Soundgarden. All of them. It was cool to be whatever you wanted. Always good times.

And all but Eddie are gone now. What a loss… Seattle created temporary perfection. Like a picture of a stained glass window when the sun hit it to perfection right before it crashes to the ground.

I love how he, in 4 verses, describes his lack of vision of future: empty canvas, untouched clay, like an artist that's starting over. He has no plans anymore, no project for the future, nothing. He doesn't know what to do with his own life anymore, because she is gone. At the same time, he is describing their empty bed: the messy sheets where she one was, but not anymore. Simply genious. Geniously simple. And absolutely beautiful.

Not a lot of people realize that the “little shake” with his head after the lyrics “all I taught her was everything.” Is actually him getting pissed off at himself for messing up the next line. He knew right then he was supposed to say “I know she gave me all that she wore,” but instead accidentally skipped forward to, “how quick the sun can drop away.” You can see it with his eye roll as he shakes his head, as if he’s cursing himself. That to me is what makes this performance one of the greatest ever. 9 out of 10 people didn’t even realize one of the greatest performances ever had a screw up error in it, because his professionalism covered it up so well that it went virtually unnoticed. A lot of artists would have stalled in the moment.

Hands down one of the best voices I have ever heard. Even unplugged, he has such a unique voice and obvious passion and emotion with his voice.

The "off mic" vocal intro is consistent with what you hear on the studio album. The sound comes from a distance, like it's being sung down a hall or something.

As a teen from the 90's, this was absolutely one of our angsty anthems... I very much enjoyed your comments on it. Thank you.

“I know someday you’ll be a star, in somebody else’s sky, but why… why.. whyyyy oh why cant it be, oh can’t it be mine” I’m borrowing this from another comment on another video, but many pearl jam listeners have someone in mind when they hear those lyrics.

The thing I love about this live version is you can see he's not singing to be great. He's singing to tell a story , to give you the emotion that he felt. Just pouring everything he had into every single line and note. Just watching his face with the song on silent would convey the pain and emotion in this song. It's why I can't listen to this song very often. Just opens the floodgates of emotion. Truly a legendary masterpiece !! :)

The Ten album takes me back to a time and space. Iraq, early 2003, a palace rooftop in Southwest Baghdad. I had a hand crank radio and someone on the US SOM -B radio station was playing the ten album. It was so unexpected but a wonderful piece of home in a far off place. To this day whenever i hear it thats what I think of. A fond memory from a place filled with nightmares.

I am a huge Pearl Jam fan. I remember when this premiered on MTV, and the performance at times made me uncomfortable (in a way) because Eddie Vedder’s performance was so raw and vulnerable. You almost feel like you’re reading someone’s diary. I had the privilege to see Pearl Jam several times (1993, 1995, 1999, and again in 2003). This song is one of my favorites from this band, and it breaks my heart each time I hear it. I am so happy that you got to feel all the feels! Shivers, goosebumps, tears. Yes, yes, and yes!!!

remember the moment he took his hat off and turned into a different person? He also did that at a concert when the bouncers was hurting a kid and it pissed him off and he turned up the volume.

I know exactly what you mean about the performance. It felt personal. They've been one of my few favourite bands since I was 12 years old (27 years ago!) lol. I got the honour of seeing them live at Leeds festival once and I just stood there in awe, clutching my beer 😆 mind blown

@@keithferris9574 You can actually hear that audition. Look up Temple of the Dog, Hunger Strike. That was several of Pearl Jam, playing with Chris Cornell. But Eddie picked up a mike, and jumped in. Think it almost as soon as he got off the plane, in Seattle.
