Eddie is probably the most genuine guy on the planet. Probably the Tri-planet area. He is known to cry when crowds sing the songs along with him. This guy truly deserves everything great that happens to him. There are stories for days about how awesome of a guy he is. Also, he' was an all state basketball player.

When they did their Rock And Roll Hall of Fame speech. Eddie actually apologized to the rest of the band for all those early jumps he did. In one concert he actually stomps a hole in the stage and then jumps in the hole and disappears. Ive been going to Pearl Jam concerts since 92'. The early years it was pure emotion. Now they are more subdued but its more like a religious experience. Like everyone in the stadium and Pearl Jam are one. Eddie is an amazing performer. There is actually a video on youtube of all of Eddie's best antics on stage caught on video. You should react to that.

Vin you where right about the cameraguy. He helped Eddy by balencing out the crane. The Pinkpop festival is something special. The shirt he is wearing here is from my local club (Tivoli), were i used to see all the cool bands. One of the employees i know took Eddy to the bar across the street (België) the night before they played there and just before Pinkpop. It was one of my favorite places to be in Utrecht. He recieved a thank you note a couple of months later from Eddy, thanking him for introducing him to The King and The Devil (De Koninge and Duvel, 2 Belgian bears) When they returned to Pinkpop a few years back, he had the same Tivoli shirt on during the gig. And he talked to the crowd about the crane jump and he thanked the cameradude for helping him make that jump. Amazing guy!

On the tour for the album 10, this song Porch was usually their "climax" song if you will where Vedder finds something to climb up, hang from, jump from, balance on, etc. Not to say he hadnt been the whole show like in the Evenflow video which was at The Moore theatre here in Seattle and jumps from one of the old balcony box seat areas. I was at the first night show out of 2 over the weekend . PJ is prolly one of the bands I seen the most times, at least 9-10 besides temple of the Dog, and Mother Love Bone which consisted of 2 PJ members before PJ. He was so energetic in the early days and like us all mellowed out over the years. And like you said Eddie is transparent and never let any of it go to their heads.

Fun fact: The guys in the band used to dread Eddie's stage-climbing antics because they were afraid one day he'd slip and they'd be left without a lead singer. If memory serves, Eddie said his stage-climbing was essentially him dealing with all the attention; he's more of an introvert and wasn't comfortable being in the spotlight, so stage-climbing was a misguided way of burning off the anxiety. Fortunately for PJ fans (and himself!) he eventually smartened up.

AWESOME! So happy you're doing this version! ❤️🤘🏻🔥 ETA: Mike, their lead guitarist, has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease since he was 21... He's described it "Imagine the worst diarrhea you've ever had, and then times it by ten, with a knife in it. You have maybe half a second to find out where a bathroom is." As a similar sufferer (I know his has been pretty brutal... ) & knowing the symptoms: the extreme fatigue, unintentional weight loss (I'm probably 20lbs currently under my preferred weight. At 5"), dark circles around the eyes, hollow cheeks, pale skin, etc.I'm guessing he's quite ill in this video. He's been very open about his illness. I remember horror stories he's told about touring, getting sick on stage & so on. He's fought it every step of the way, having gone through things I can't even imagine while being in one of the biggest & hardworking bands in the world! Huge hero of mine ❤️

Damien Oshea Thanks for the comment, Damien! I’ve read & seen a lot of stuff when Mike’s talked about the effects the disease has had on him over the years. He’s looking a lot healthier today, thankfully! But even when I saw them, which was around 2005, he didn’t look to be in the best of health. In this video, in particular, he looks really ill & exhausted to me, of course it’s at the end of their set, too... while I know he’s had substance abuse issues (& thankfully overcame them!) I just mentioned it as a reason in case others possibly think differently. But, of course, others may not notice it at all.🤷🏻‍♀️ If you search his name and Crohn’s on KZbin you’ll find some interviews in which he talks about it. He’s been an advocate for IBD for a long time now... wonderful guy! ♥️ And, fantastic guitarist!!!

I have a piece of his T-shirt! It had been torn while he surfed & as I held him before he turned to go back to the stage the piece of shirt hit me, I grabbed it! We were all fine, you expect it in every rock concert if you’re down front, that’s why we stand there. When he was surfing & he turned, he was asking me if I was ok & was telling the guys to be respectful. Eddie was very aware of me being a woman surrounded by men & was very gentle with me & told the guys to take care of me & make sure I didn’t get hurt. They formed a circle around me for the whole show before he dived on us all anyway, but I really appreciated Eddies concern for me. I’m 55 now, thanks for reacting to such a wonderful memory, one of the greatest human beings ever. I’m so glad they caught it on camera. I was alone, but made lifetime friends there. I’m 55 now, thanks for reacting to such a wonderful memory.

The camera dive is simply epic but I always love the view from behind of Eddie clapping and the entire crowd following his lead...it has a messiah type feeling. There is a recent video of Vedder (on youtube) talking about the jump and him meeting the camera guy many years later - the camera guys big concern was balancing the camera rig and when Eddie jumped the boom would not become unbalanced and come crashing down. You two need to attend a Pearl Jam concert - they definitely have a different sort of connection with their fans. Their shows are always epic, long, always varied setlists...never really know what to expect. If you can make it to Chicago for a show I will pop for tickets...I have an "in" for Pearl Jam tickets...you might even get to meet the band.

You guys need to watch the movie “Into The Wild.” He does an entire acoustic soundtrack for the movie and he is amazing.

I loved how all the people that caught him all fell down at once. That was amazing. Its hard to have a crowd go nuts when they're 20 feet away from the stage.

..if you watch the whole set, you'll see Eddie taking pictures of the crowd, as this was Pearl Jam's first Festival show, they never had more then 250 pepole coming to their gigs in Seattle ... this was the beginning of Pearl Jam becoming a World known band... as many bands started in The Netherlands and at PinkPop

thanks for mentioning that sori... i have been aware of this event for many many moons... not once not even once did i ever consider what kind of carnage would occur if that structure collapsed... it goes without saying that this song is a classic... this performance is more than super-duper... be well both of you...

I watched them perform at Drop in The Park a free concert at Magnuson Park a former navy base north of Seattle in 1992. Seaweed and Cyprus Hill performed as well. At one point during the show Eddie tossed his corded mic up over the rafters of the scaffolding above the stage, let it drop down the other side, and then hand over hand climbed up the mic cord to sing hanging from his knees upside down in the scaffolding 20 ft. or so above.
