MTV Unplugged had a rule that the artists couldn’t get up from their stools. And this was their rebellion against that. This was also the moment Pearl Jam became my favorite band. I was 14 when it aired.

Yeah, these unplugged-sessions where contracted with a whole lot of rules for the artists, no leaving the chairs, no political statements and so on, if they did they had to pay some crazy amount in fines. I guess they just figured, the line’s been crossed let’s roll with it!

PRO CHOICE ! ! Pearl Jam as a collective group and as individuals have used their music and their platform to champion social issues from day one and continue to do so to this day. Evenflow (homelessness), Jeremy (s u * c i d e), Daughter (child neglect), Glorified G (gun violence), Animal (abuse), W.M.A. ( police brutality/profiling), Rearviewmirror (abusive relationships), Habit (addiction), Do The Evolution (human entitlement), Bu$Hleaguer (anti-Bush administration post 9/11 during the Iraq War), Army Reserve (anti-war during Iraq & Afghanistan Wars), Quick Escape (climate crisis), Retrograde (climate change), React, Respond (political corruption, war, media manipulation). A couple suggestions for your next Pearl Jam reaction: “Breath” “State of Love and Trust”

1992 Pink Pop performance of Porch is the one to watch. There's a ~25 minute compilation of Eddie climbing stuff during this song. Even knowing he's still alive, 30 years later, you can't help being nervous watching his stunts. Stone Temple Pilots had a really good Unplugged, also.

You'll have to finish the Unplugged; you've only got 3 songs left. "Oceans" - another one where you'll say "OMG, his voice!", "State of Love and Trust" - a fast-paced rocker where Eddie's vocals are at peak grit, and "Alive" which is one of the three, if not the, biggest hits from their first record.

It's hard for me to choose between the Unplugged for this one and "Black" but both are pretty incredible. If you choose to do another Pearl Jam, check out the music video for the song "Alive." I hope you get to check out another Stone Temple Pilots song. I recommend the music video for their song "Creep"
