According to Kimberly Crick, these ARE lightfast! She did a one year test against a window. Many (if not all) brands of glitter watercolour are fugitive, especially the reds and pinks. But I wish companies would include the pigment information! Wonderful review and wonderful art. You've got a new subscriber 👌👌👌

I was looking for a review on Finetec and I found this. But the beauty of the butterflies you created caught my eye. They are lovely. Your review is great. I was wondering how I would use finetec actually. All I could think of is Xmas. But I guess, you can use that with anything you can imagine. Your butterflies are truly amazing.

This video is great. I came looking for them for more craftsy stuff. I wanted to just give some highlights to birds and leaves for wedding cards. Kind of a filigree work

I looking at getting Finetec metallic or pearlescent for bird, specifically hummingbirds. The ones in my area have a shiny hot pink and bright green. These seem like the right idea. I don't need all of the colors though so I appreciate I can get individual pans. Finetec is a ethical and green company, the mica they use is synthetic.

With these paints you have to put a good amount of water on them and wait 5 mins before you start. Keeping them hydrated makes all the difference. I usually use a pallet so I can get the flow I want from them

I know this is an old video, so you might have discovered a solution already, but I will comment anyway. You got a set of opaque metallic colors, but I believe you were looking for iridescent colors. They don't have a base color, so on white paper they almost don't show up at all except for a colorful shimmer. There is a finetec set with iridescent colors. Or you can buy them open stock from finetec or coliro (which is the exact same brand but the pans are round).

Just bought the 24-set from Blick instead of Derwent’s 12 color set and then watched your review. These colors look good to me on both white and black. Can’t wait to try them out, for cards, coloring and just having fun with watercolor.

Your butterflies should be published. They are beautifull! Glad you showed the finetec, i was looking into that myself. Can you buy new pans seperately when one runs out of paint?

smoothie77 i have the kuretake metallic watercolor. Gold and silver. I find it “ difficult” to get the glitter out of my brushes. So i use only my older brushes with iT. Do you had any problem with this?
@smoothie77drawingpainting
@smoothie77drawingpainting 5 жыл бұрын
@@inekedusseljee3093 I had that problem when I used the W/N iridescent medium, not so much with the Fintec, its best to use different brushes and avoid mixing them on your regular palette, use a different too.

smoothie77 i just learned (through Google) the binding agent is gum arabic and the shimmer is mica. So by buying mica poeder and use your own watercolors plus Some gum arabic iT should be possible to make the watercolor you need.

@@inekedusseljee3093 Thanks for that Ineke, someone else mentioned mica powder on my patreon, I have a Daniel Smith dot card with iridescent colours on it, the interference colours are superb, they are almost clear with a little bit of colour and very pearlescent looking, I ordered 2 tubes yesterday, waiting for them to be delivered, I think they will be perfect for butterfly paintings.

Great video. I have a few of these paints. Like to use them for insect bodies, particularly beetles bodies. Tough to get what you want, like anything. Play and fiddle with it.

I just found your site this morning, I found it very helpful and enjoyable.Some years ago I tried Winsor & Newton Iridescent Medium on hummingbirds I did in watercolor. My results were not the greatest but like you say, glitter

I’ve never used that iridescent medium to know what it’s like but Daniel Smith’s Pearlescent Shimmer is basically just the shimmer and binder with no actual color.

The effect of the Daniel Smith ones isn't very strong and without a dark background most of them you can't even see. But finetec have a different type of colours which are the shimmer without the base colour with still a stronger effect of the shimmer which would be ideal for a project like this and they even have some duochromes which should be lovely for butterflies and insects as well. But you can mix something like the ecoline gold with water colour as well to get a settle but still shimmery effect.

You’ve used them incorrectly, the more water you add the better the flow, you want to add more water to the brush than paint in order to create flow, alter the amount of metallic paint according to how metallic you want it, but don’t alter the amount of water as this keeps the flow. I.e, water to metallic- 3:1 (little metallic effect) 3:2 (deeper metallic effect)
