A little tip for your water. If you use something like a single sized yogurt container, you can let the water evaporate out and then use the shimmer for quick projects. These are sets I've been looking at for when my current ones run out, thank you for sharing the swatches.

I agree entirely, I’ve used both Finetec and Gansai Tambi and they are of equal quality when used for painting, it’s certainly not worth paying double. However, in fairness to Finetec they produce a larger range of colours. I love their deep greens and peacock blue. Thank you for your review.

I own the set of the gold (the Starry set) and I use the heck out of them. Both for accenting a colour with a soft wash, to using it much thicker as the primary colour itself. And yes, many colouring books carry those paints lol :)

Thanks for swatching these! It can really be random how truly metallic some paints are so it's always a helpful to see them in action. Did you find any specifics on how lightfast they claim to be? I seem to be missing anything out there that's detailed.

I got the gem colour set already and just ordered the starry ones, too 😁. I actually went on a little shopping spree 😙🎶🎵🎶 and ordered a 24 set regular Gansais and the 6 pieces Boku - Undo Sumi Gansais as well. Can't wait for those to arrive! I really like those gargantuan pans, though I'm not much a fan of cardboard boxes. I really feel like I want a proper palette for them :) Oh and I just use a little spraying bottle to activate my colours because most of the time I just tend to forget to clean my brushes properly ^^'

Great idea to compare them on white and dark papers. Thanks so much. You don't say whether they retain the glittering once the paint has dried. I have had this problem with metallic markers that seem to loose most of their shine once the color has dried. Do the dry Gansai Tambi remain as glittering as the video shows when wet ?

Thanks so much, Claire - awesome review! I had recently purchased several colors in Finetec - and they are quite nice - but with your review, so are the Kuretake! I think I'll order some of the Kuretake and I can mix and match them. Again, thanks for your time!

Thank you for this comparison video. I've been wondering about the Gem Colours. I have the Pearl Colours which I love, though as other people have said they can look very silvery. Turning the paper 90° helps to see the colours. Have you tried mixing these with Inktense? I found I got some beautiful deep sparkly colours, albeit with a slightly more subtle sheen.

Watching another video of these paints, the reviewer suggested keeping the water you cleaned your brushes with, so that if you're using normal paints it will add some sparkle to the finish.

I have the starry colors and I’m still learning how to use them. Could you please show how to work with them in a coloring book? Loved the pearl effect on the black paper. Do you think we can use them on a background that we previously painted with acrylic paint? Thank you!

I believe the reason behind the price between Finetec and Gansei Tambi, is workmanship and the quality of mica they use to make those paints.

I recently bought the Gem set and I have to say I'm not particularly thrilled with them (the yellow/gold one is the only one I was happy with). I am used to the Finetec gold ones and they have this matte/flat finish that doesn't look streaky at all, even with just one swipe of brush. Maybe it's the paper I swatched them with (Arteza) but they looked very streaky and when not hit by light, they also look quite dull. I'll still post that video, but maybe I will do a second try with another paper, just to re-check them.

I have watched and read many reviews for the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Paint Sets compared to the Finetec or Coliro as they call them now and.......They say the same as you streaky and dull and not nearly as opaque.
@KarijnsWatercolors
@KarijnsWatercolors 6 жыл бұрын
I think it's mainly a problem with the 'colored' ones, while the gold ones are slightly better. Time-wise, the gold palette of Kuretake came out before the others, possibly as a competitor to the Finetec one, so they might have invested more in the formulation an testing. The others after, maybe they just used the same formulation and didn't test it as thoroughly? In the Gem set you can clearly see the difference between the yellow/gold pan and all the others, in intensity and sheen, so this is why I think that the gold set received the most care and the others a little bit less. But once again, I did just some swatches, maybe with use they get better?

Hey there Claire...just ran across this while looking around for a cheaper alternative to the finetec set I seen you using on the pharaoh you showed on the facebook page...do you think I could achieve same or very close to same results as you do with finetec...also I’m thinking the greens wouldn’t be good for the ivy and inky butterfly to do the painting as Ive seen so many do on KZbin. What do you think? Also...thanks for being so amazing
@ColourwithClaire
@ColourwithClaire 5 жыл бұрын
It's @claireholowaycolouring who did the Pharaoh page (don't worry, people get us mixed up all the time!), but I think you would be fine using the Gansai, they're not *quite* as good as the Coliro but you could definitely get a lovely effect with them xx

Gouache dries matt, not glossy. That’s why illustrators used it so much, so it would photograph without glare

What brand is your paintbrush??
@pattibaileydesigns
@pattibaileydesigns 5 жыл бұрын
I'm also interested in the paintbrush brand as well. Also, this may be a dumb question but when you are working with 2-3 different colors, do you clean/dip your brush into different water glasses so that you aren't dipping from one color to the next as you are rinsing?
@sorry-I-write-long-comments
@sorry-I-write-long-comments 5 жыл бұрын
@@pattibaileydesigns the way I do it, have 2 glass of water, one dirty and one clean... So then you wash of the paint in the dirty one, and dip a clean brush in the clean water to get more water on the brush. This way the Pigment from the previous colors aren't blending in the color you want to use next😊
