Pearl's Twitch community is so great, when she was learning/doing redstone on stream, everyone was so nice and helpful. In general, her chat is such a nice one to be in, everyone is very kind and I barely see any messages that need to be deleted/people that need to be banned. I think it comes from the fact that Pearl is so sweet and kind herself, she is very patient with other people and that attracts like-minded people to her. That's not to say that other streamers are not kind as well but there is just something about that sweet Pearl magic that makes everything wholesome. Pearl, if you're reading this, thanks for all the lovely moments on your streams and for being so kind to and inclusive of everyone.

To Skizz's point about Redstoners saying, "I can do it better," my impression watching the VOD (and also being there for a troubleshooting session later) was that Pearl is really good about shutting that down-responding politely but firmly that she's in the driver's seat and is asking for specific questions rather than for someone to take over. Does that match up with what it felt like in the moment? Or am I way off?
@TheRealWormbo2 ай бұрын
@@GSBarlev I haven't watched that particular stream, but I think most streamers make the mistake of being too vague in their questions to chat, or they forget to set their expectations what kind of answers they need. But I guess it's also about conditioning the audience to not backseat the entire process, but only provide relevant information when it is requested.

As someone who used to teach software development to adults with varying levels of coding experience, from professionals looking to specialize in a new field to people who had never written a single character of code before, seeing Pearl go from "never using redstone" to "I built this full minigame in redstone" so quickly warmed my heart! I was like, "yessss, so cool!" And now hearing about the process (I will definitely... start... watching that 8-hour VOD 😅)... she's got such an engineer's brain, and I love it! Not asking "how do I do this task?" but "what do these pieces do and how do they work?" -- and then figuring out how to put those pieces together for each subtask until the overall job is done. That's programming, friends! (Side note: when I taught dev, I remember one student who constantly struggled because they always tried to just make their code "do the thing", and I kept having to remind them to break everything down into smaller and smaller tasks until one of those tasks is something that already existed in the language. To the point where I literally gave them a rubber band for their wrist and said "whenever you find yourself rushing ahead to a bigger task then you know how to solve, snap this band to remind yourself to sloooowwwww dooowwwnnnnn." That's exactly what Pearl did: she didn't just go "okay, how do I make Wordle?" She went, "what functionality does redstone come with, and then once I know that, what functionality can I make by combining those bits? And then by combining *those* things I just made? Etc.")
@ProtonGlitchАй бұрын
"I'm always learning." "I'm just constantly trying to figure out a way to make it better." "Break it down, and it makes the whole process a whole lot easier to understand." "Strive for the steps up to the end result." Excellent life advice, Pearlie. 😊

"comparison is the thief of joy" is what I remind myself. I was an artistic kid (I first stopped drawing young due to some bullying, sadly) who gave up many times over the years, after trying to do art again, because it never turned out how I wanted it to. The worst thought was when I would beat myself up for not being better at art because I didn't keep doing it even after some silly little girl in my kindergarten class called me weird lol. I could see an artist, hear music, or look at something out in the world that puts an image in my mind ...and I would be so let down when I couldn't make that image come to life. I kept trying all kinds of mediums. I've used written words, digital art, sketches, markers, pencil crayons, paint, mix media, all kinds of stuff... And I've found that it's nearly impossible to make an intangible thought into a tangible, physical item. So even comparing yourself to yourself can hold you back from your potential. You just keep trying and don't worry if it doesn't look how you want it to, because how can you take something from the 4D (your mind's eye) and make it 3D.. even physicists or mathematicians or whoever works with shapes/dimensions struggle to do that lol that's exactly it, and what I tell my kids, just keep learning and keep practicing. I'm going to take that Latin quite from Pearl and put it on my wall... And I'll make it artsy lol

I really feel for Pearl's sleep schedule. I'm in a similar boat, except I don't have a good excuse like trying to fit my schedule around differing time zones. Despite my best efforts, I haven't had a regular sleep routine that's lasted longer than a fortnight for half my life because of a delayed circadian rhythm disorder. In simpler terms, I'm permanently jetlagged. Being awake during the day is exhausting and it's normal for me to go to sleep at 6-7am. I've pulled more allnighters than I can count in my life in my attempt to set myself back on a normal schedule but it always slips back. So I have a lot of sympathy for Pearl, and it's actually kind of comforting to have someone to relate to.
@mr.boomguy2 ай бұрын
I have two ideas, and I'm sorry if you've tried them already. One is, deprive yourself intentionally of sleep, then sleep at your desired time. The second is... Just roll with it. Maybe you're a nightowl, and you need to adjyst your scedual to it Just a note, I'm no doctor, it's just some ideas
@SerKGrimm2 ай бұрын
@@mr.boomguy Can't fault you for making an effort. The first is the reason for my all nighters - I always revert back. For the most part, I go with the second, but that doesn't always work out with my job and other obligations, considering the fact that properly-functioning humans operate during the day. After 16 years and many attempts at remedying it, I'm sort of just rolling with it and trying not to have a mental breakdown when it messes me up.

@indighost__2 ай бұрын
i didn't expect to see someone else with a circadian rhythm disorder, i have n24 which makes me sleep a couple hours later everyday so i'm always sleeping at a different time until it loops back around. trying to conform to a normal sleep schedule makes me severely sleep deprived but having such an inconsistent sleep schedule means i can't get a normal job or go to school because i'll either be exhausted the whole time or my sleep schedule will conflict with my daily activities. funnily enough i used to have delayed sleep phase disorder and at some point it turned into this
@indighost__2 ай бұрын
@@mr.boomguy the problem with circadian rhythm disorders is that they're basically built into your body, going against what your body naturally wants to do can cause a lot of health problems (sleep deprivation, plus everything that can come with sleep deprivation). some people have fixed their sleep disorders but from what i've seen it's a lot of commitment for something that very well just won't work

Problem is that it's not what _they_ decide to use for an acronym, it's what the _audience_ decides :3

The Kid you're probably talking about at 4:02 Skizz, is the "angry german kid" and the video is staged. He didn't want it to be published but another person did. Here in Germany the video got popular after a school shooting a year later and the German media framing video games as a reason for aggression with him as an example. The other students (he was 13-14 at that time) thought it was real and began bullying him, the video ruined his life. There is a little more to the story, but too much for a comment, I just thought that this might be interesting.

Watching this podcast episode while working on a Imp & skizz inspired piece of art, the talk about trusting the process is very helpful in the art I'm working on even though it's been taking me over a hour and I'm not even halfway done with it. Love the podcast can't wait for the next episode! (Ps you should totally get Grian on the podcast!)

My first real exposure to Pearl as a person was when she joined the boatem crew. First thoughts: aw she seems like a sweet and cool person. When she flipped her starter base by 90 degrees: alright, she's gonna fit right in, time to add her to my "must watch!"-list, hasnt changed since
