3:02 Q(from an absolute beginner): Why can't I always place Reimu right between two laser beams or bullets? For example, If I'm right below Rika's left laser beam, just one keyboard click will drive me to the one at the right (killing Reimu), instead of leaving me at the center. The same happens with bullets and other deadly objects. Am I doing something wrong?

Late, but I'm quite sure that item collection is completely unaffected by rank. The rank increasing as far as I know is only determined by time. Your rank by the end of Stage 1, 2 and 3 is respectively 42, 54 and 64 (as seen from the Clear Bonus). By the time you got to the Five Magic Stones, your rank was already maxed out, so avoiding items does not help making patterns easier on the whole.

speed is very important, and the damage with agility at max power is actually pretty strong compared to defensive, attack type is too slow to make it worth the damage.

It may be quite possible that the attack is always in a pattern. From the looks of the video, Mima always does the same attack before she does the star pattern.

During each of her attack phases (which can be distinguished by the appearance of the background, and which end with her either dropping items or breaking into dialogue), there's a set order for her attacks, which repeat in a loop. The only random element is which attack she chooses when she starts a phase.
