Early Predators were made in the USA other later cheap Peaveys in the Far East . I have a USA made one and “Made In USA” along with the serial number is stamped into the wood on the back of the headstock It’s a well made guitar, the neck, like many USA built Peaveys , is a two piece affair with a joint right down the centre and as mine has a maple board you can see it when playing. I’m pretty sure that the hardware and pickups were made in the Far East even on many of the USA models. Mine has been a test bed for many pickups etc. over the 25 or so years I’ve owed it, it even has a patched up hole in the back from a battery compartment installed when experimenting with an Eric Clapton active circuit! It currently has a set of Alnico 5 single coils on it. I also have a couple of Far East built Peaveys and they’re quite nice little instruments.

I had one of these as my 2nd guitar in the mid 90's. Never seen another until now, every other one I've seen has the regular 6 point trem and is painted in a non-metallic red. Mine died when I was using the trem and the entire centre section of wood between the trem bushings broke away in one big chunk.
@jasondudgeon14494 жыл бұрын
The same exact thing happened to mine. I really liked the guitar, but the tremelo system just seems meant to break it.

Seen a few of these in my time, used one three days in a row( 5 gigs) no complaints from me about Peavey guitars, some what underrated.

I just picked up a black one of this exact guitar for $50 on craigslist. I spent about two hours carefully Filing the fret ends , it had lots of fret sprout. I lightly steel wall cleaned the neck and Frets, then used linseed oil.. I am surprised at how well the tuners work, smooth.. I was hoping you would give some specifications for how high the strings should be off of the frets & pickups.. you did mention that you were going to go by Stratocaster specs, so that’s what I will do.. The only issue I found is that the neck does not line up correctly in the body.. I loosened the four neck screws, and polled on the neck towards the strap button and re-tightened the screws.This helped a little, but, from the nut looking down towards the bridge over the strings, the sixth string is not as close to the edge of the fret board at the nut, as it is at the last fret.. I don’t wanna make a wild guess at the actual Number in millimeters or inches. But, it looks like the difference at the nut and just above the neck pick up distance the strings are closer to the edge is about the thickness of a fret.. or maybe a little bit more than a thickness of the United States nickel. It looks like the bridge needs to be moved towards the input jack that distance to correct it because the nut does look centered on the neck, and at the knot, the strings are pretty evenly spaced on the first and the sixth strings to the edge.. I have only seen this one other time on a PRS, SE guitar that I had.. how do I fix it? Try to move the entire bridge?

On some truss nut the metal is very cheap too,so every time a wrench hits it, the metal rolls. I have a mexi fender and I done exactly what you pointed out. I feel so stupid. My gibson comes with the wrench and it does not fit snugg. Crazy stuff.

The "international" part of "International Series" surely means this is a non-USA Peavey. Thus the 4 silly-meter truss rod nut.

Yep, this is the inferior grade foreign made crap Peavey has been selling since moving it's production to China. Superb value brand American made guitar line now really a substandard foreign made guitar.

The only thing Peavey is presently making in the USA are the big amps and pa systems, the rest of their stuff is made in China. If you watch Under Cover Boss at Peavey, you can watch him stick it to his employees when he made the grand announcement that most of Peavey was moving production over seas , China.

I picked up a 92 predator neck and body from a friend for nothing. Body looked gorgeous and the neck felt amazing in my hand. Spent a decent bit of time and money replacing the hardware and electronics only to realize it has a tiny hump/twist near the neck heel, which is why no matter how I set it up, I couldn't get rid of buzz...
@zbthunderwood6 жыл бұрын
@@googlesucks6140 yeah, it sucks. I'm in the process of fitting a samick neck from a pawnshop strat. Check out the video on my channel. Other than a little sanding and filling and re-drilling holes, it should work out. That's the best part about gear that costs next to nothing: being able to tinker around worry-free
@j_freed6 жыл бұрын
zwood1981 - can't you level the frets to compensate for the hump. I'm thinking fastest playable solution here if the hump really is tiny. Nothing to lose trying a partial fret level, recrown and polish.

I bought a Peavey from a pawn shop last year. Cool little guitar, the one I grabbed had a PRS style 3 and 3 headstock on it. Looked at it up and down, tried it and Bought it. I made a major mistake and didn't notice the twist in the neck until the next day so back it went.

Very cool that you have the recording gig, I usually enjoyed them if the music didn't suck. On another note, is the refined linseed oil supposed to smell so strong? I bought some from an artist's supply store and even though I used it sparingly and wiped the fingerboard down well, man does my case smell. It's been about a month and half a dozen gigs, hoping it mellows out. Thanks for everything Dave.

Hey Dave, just started watching your videos last week, and I can't stop! Great video as usual. I was just wondering how I'd contact you to have you work on my Gibson LP Custom. Been sitting in it's case about 10 years and just needs a tune up. (I don't know if there's KZbin rules against this or not, but in your description of every video you do, you could have your contact info. Just a thought.) Thanks in advance. -Korie G.

Dave is a cool guy and knows what he's doing, but save yourself some money and the headache of mailing. Also Dave is in Canada, not sure if you know that or not.
