Peavey Vypyr X2 and Boss Katana 100 MkII 6505 and Brown Sound

A little Megadeth through these 2 stellar little amps. I dimed the bass on both and ran the mids and highs halfway. Definitely digging both amps and wish they were available when I was learning to play.

The Slight difference they have i bet they would blend together pretty good in stereo. Get that low end and scooped mid with X2 and Mid forward with the katana.

You know.... I totally played them in stereo for the fun of it while this video was uploading. It's pretty epic. It was way more brutal. Totally cool.

Thanks for the comparison! I prefer the Katana here. The Peavey has good tones but for my tastes it’s a bit too scooped. The midrange of the Katana is more forward and probably cuts better in a band context. That sure, I’m sure either can be tweaked to sound more like the other and they’re both capable tools.

I agree. Both are worthy. I would like to compare the Katana 100 to a Vypyr X3. The X3 has more, "in your face mids, " and the same power. Unfortunately, according to our rep, the X3's won't be available until July and I'm currently sold out.

I know they won’t but Peavy should hook you up your videos are the only metal/riff demos out for the new x series. I’ve got an X2 coming I think it sounds killer for what it is.

Peavey has more Realism still to this day and you do not need a computer program to get the MOST out of a VYPYR either, unlike the Katana whose software updates are a pain.

I'm super torn on this... I want to play thrash mainly and for thrash, I thibk the Peavey sounds epic. But I know the katana has so much potential to tweak tone and the editing software for the peavey seems basic. That being said, I still think the Peavey sounds brutal AF

The Vypyr interface can get you into some deeper editing on your computer. It's been part of the line for awhile, but you don't hear much about it. A friend of mine was just praising the option when he finally plugged the amp in and dialed his tones that way. Something more to consider.

Hi Ben, couple of questions, I know you mentioned near the start of the video what the Katana settings were but I really liked the tone so if you happen to have maybe a picture of the settings or settings by control knob that would be cool? Also I actually came across your video while searching how to connect the Vypyr and Katana (as I have the Katana but was thinking of getting the Vypyr but wanted to know if there is a way of hooking them up together) so if you have any details on how you did that (as I noticed you mentioned it below that you did) that would be cool too. I don't have the settings handy... I didn't think to save them. I used a Whirlwind ABY type switching pedal to hook the amps up to one guitar signal. I do that in all my comparison videos. They're quiet and work very well.

@@benchristopher76 Thanks Ben, I was thinking more setting them up to play in stereo rather than switching between one and the other. You mentioned in another response below that you did that? Can you use the Whirlwind do both switching and set them up to run in stereo or did you use a different method for stereo setup? Thanks again

@@SantoAx It's really just running both amps at the same time via the Whirlwind.... Not truly stereo since it's the same mono signal going to both amps. Guitar -> Whirlwind A Out to Vypyr and B out to Katana. The Whirlwind allows switching between the 2 or running both at once.

What is the hiss. The amps are not dialed in enough. The Kat is louder and fuller, and I think they can get lots closer.

I use the Peavey a ton. I've had a number of the Katanas, but I like the Peavey at low/practice volumes a lot.

I have not. A buddy of mine was talking about getting a Spark, but I haven't gotten one to try myself. I've heard good things about both.

No experience with the Spark, but between the Vypyr and Katana its like this: Katana sounds better, but the Vypyr gives you more sounds. Its practically its own pedal board.

Boss Katana is horrible LOL. Peavey and Blackstar are the best no tube amp.
