Miss GoElectric visited the Pebble headquarters in Sunnyvale California to view prototypes of the company's Flow electric travel trailer in October of 2023. Her goal was to learn as much as she could from the marketing team and Pebble's CEO Bingrui Yang.
Miss GoElectric owns a Rivian R1T (Max Pack) and has a Tesla Cybertruck on order. A solution like the Pebble Flow could minimize range loss and add a host of other benefits when not in use. Find out what makes this prototype so unique and let us know if you would like Miss GoElectric to offer more coverage when it goes into public beta testing or production.
We revisted the Pebble headquarters in March of 2024 to learn more about updates and progress of the Pebble Flow. Plus we tried out a live demonstration of the Magic Hitch technology. Watch here: • Pebble Flow Electric R...

Writing this to the pebble executives for their benefit. You want to justify the cost of the tech and its off grid capabilities, prove its durability? Run it up and down the Alaskan highways (may through sept) for your R & D. Would give your product credibility to back up your advertised claims and show that the tech can actually handle real world use without break down.

This underlying technology is already tried and true. There are over 30 million EVs on the road worldwide. This RV specific application will be commonplace in a few years. Pebble appears to be among the first movers. -Producer Tim

Thats great. My statement comes from being an automotive HV tech for nearly twenty years in the midwest. Tech not so different than what you're selling minus the base ICE power source. I said durability in real world. I'm not in KIA(eww) but i can tell you that between the back order of parts and lack of qualified techs, that the 'proven' EV tech statement doesn't mean squat if it cannot stand up to real world use. You can reference Tesla all you want, but that's tesla. Not you or your product or how you have tested and ensured it can be used as advertised. Which reminds me. What happens when there is a problem? A standard RV tech isn't going to be able to diagnosis a DC\DC status circuit DTC, so how is pebble going to handle it when an owner runs into inverter that shuts down to protect the system? Because if i had to guess, then it becomes an over weight travel trailer with none of the benefits or use of any of its tech. Hence my suggestion on the R & D, because the corporate response makes you sound like the Fisker of RV's. @@MissGoElectric

Miss GE, great review! I hadn't heard of you, but just subscribed, as you give an informative, no BS, tour and review. BTW, those overhead cabinets are hinged correctly, unlike the rest of the RV's. By opening from the bottom you have a shelf to shuttle things around as you're looking for something, or, rearranging as you load more items. I wish this product well, what a futuristic and beautiful product!

The weight issue is a bogus FUD. So you have a battery that is only as large as necessary. The safety buffer is only half as on a COBALT battery and there is no 80% rule so not hauling around 20% of uncharged battery people pay thousands more for EG Buying a MODEL 3 LR instead of standard, never makes sense to me.

Personally, after seeing many of the currently available Pebble Flow and competitors' tours, although I have a family of 6, I could make this compact but well-considered Pebble layout comfortable with two adults, 4 kids (10 and under) and a big dog, while I can't see myself making the other major electric camper layout work for us. The separated living/sleeping quarters help seal the deal, as does the lower GVWR (as of product website information in July 2024), and that both big names boast about 7 days off grid, and similar towing range. The Pebble's energy efficiency and lighter tow weight gives more flexibility to choose a tow vehicle, making it the more economical choice long term. You don't have to immediately drop $70k on a new tow vehicle, if you already have a SUV or pickup truck. Back to the layout, though! I can put a stack of kids to bed in the Queen bed and still work on my laptop or watch a movie at the dinette end of the camper if on a solo trip with children. Or when I get up early like I do, and not wake everyone up while fixing up coffee and breakfast. I can also see myself using either a rooftop tent on a tow vehicle, or even collapse the 2nd and 3rd row in an SUV to sleep a couple of us in a pinch, if all six of us are on the road for an extended time, but I suspect by the time our family can start shopping around for a brand new travel trailer, there will be a Pebble with some kind of flex room that converts into a bunkhouse available when the kids stretch out into teens! It does look like the kitchen counter is a bit low, which for a tall home cook is a consideration, as are the overhead cabinets opening down, rather than up like aircraft cargo bins. It's also easier for a shorter person to reach in, if the door opens up out of the way. Just something to consider for the production model. For someone who grew up with compact European apartment kitchens, the Pebble kitchen is well-considered, and appears to have sufficient storage for a small camper. The other electric camper seems to be designed by singles and couples for singles and couples. I haven't seen the exterior storage on either showed off yet, but hope there's a place for the stinky slinky and water hoses and charging cables, in addition to general storage compartments. I hope the LED light strips inside the camper can be dimmed, and light temperature adjusted, or even automated to match the ambient light temperature outside when left to its own devices. I prefer to use warmer, dimmer bulbs in my house in the evening, to help everyone wind down. Just musings of someone married to the guy who's got an EV, house has Powerwalls, and a full solar roof install is on the calendar for "Soon". He's not going back to internal combustion, like ever. 😅

The problem with the F150 Lightning is its range. One of the dealers I visited talked me out of the Lightning. I travel farther than it’s “no load” range. While this trailer will help with keeping that range, you still won’t be able to get more than 4 hours from home. You won’t be able to recharge at most campgrounds (it will take up to 100 hours). I purchased the hybrid instead. I would like to try one of these smart trailers with my F-150 hybrid.

Amazing, only a couple of issues, cabinets should raise up not down, makes it more difficult to use especially for shorter people and more chances of damage as people would lean on doors; I would like two axles due to concerns of a blow out. If a tire blows I could see 10-20k of damage. Concerned about outside storage size. Lastly where is entertainment items, including speaker for outside. Always have music playing inside/outside while camping. I would buy this 👍

It would be pretty great if this electric RV with 40kWh, Morris, and solar power were priced well below a similarly sized analog $120k Airstream RV as you've mentioned. We suspect they'll sell every unit they can produce for many years at this price. Unlike most RVs, there isn't a bunch of equipment protruding from the roof. Climate control hardware is at the nose. We are less opportunity for water intrusion. Next year when these go into production, more information will be available. -Producer Tim

The L1 is larger with the option of about twice as much energy storage The collapsibility of the L1 might cancel out the net energy required to haul it. The Pebble's more manageable size, InstaCamp, and MagicHitch features will help it appeal to audiences who may not have otherwise considered a premium RV. Both RVs are prototypes at this point and we understand there are many details subject to change and development. Due to the size of the market each addresses, we think they'll each be able to sell every unit they can produce for many years to come. A lot of good ideas, however it would be better if it had toy hauler abilities, for a three wheeled electric bike. Looks great except for, cabinets that open down, bad idea. The big sky light in the bedroom is nice, but if you want to sleep past 6am it's going to let in a lot of light, the bedroom is never going to be dark. The sky light will also make the unit hard to keep cool during the day, sky lights let in a lot of heat, we have a two small sky lights in our camper that we put insulated pillows we bought at the local RV store to block the cooling loss. I'm not a fan of the bathroom with the glass wall, opaque is cool but up goes the price and weight. The price $109,000 to $125,000 is going to keep people from buying.

Since it is still an "rv", can one live in this full time like a tiny home and not just for "vacation, also does that mean it depreciates in value just like any "rv"? At a 120k price tag a tiny home would be better option in my opinion at half that price, with foundation optn, movable on wheels , full time living, boondockable, certified hone and does not depreciate in value like an rv. I would pay for a tiny home at $70k with more home efficiency value add, build certifications before I spend $120k on depreciating value. Also is there manual overrides to all the electronics, just in case- tuck away the ladder, open door, open compartments, hookup trailer etc.? Is it rentable? And how much? Rent to own an option?

Good god, as a long time RVer this thing seems to incorporate every evil I want to shun. I want less tech, less things to break. I don't want a bathroom that you can't use because the dopey electric window shades go south. I don't want a camper that is totally dependent on some proprietary Smart Control system and next thing you know you can't turn on the lights or the AC because it won't talk to your phone. I also can't believe the pricing. Airstream builds high quality trailers and has been doing it for years and this thing will cheaper than even a mid-range Airstream product? No way. I see this as being the Cybertruck of RVs. And that's not a compliment.

This isn’t a practical unit for regular camping. You open the window and let all the bugs in. You can’t leave the door open as it doesn’t have a screen door. Camping has bugs. I like the Murphy bed/work area (I’m not normally a fan of Murphy bed). There doesn’t seem to be a lot of air flow to bring in outside air. There needs to be a Maxxair fan or two. Windows need screens. The opaque class for the bathroom still doesn’t give enough privacy. There needs to be a shore power hookup for regular campgrounds. It will be quite a while before our campgrounds will be able to handle this type of unit. Many state and national parks allow for a max of 14 days in the campground. How will you be able to recharge the batteries to continue your trailer use after 7 days or drive home after 7 days. It has an MSRP of many class C units (I have one). Paying the $130K(ish) and still needing a proper tow vehicle will be a cost that most campers will be able to afford. One of the goals of camping is to provide an affordable outdoor experience. This can push the cost of your setup to the cost of a class A unit. I don’t think this set up won’t appeal to the regular travel trailer user. Airstream has a unit that has many similar features and will probably appeal to a broader audience (especially the people that either own an Airstream now or another travel trailer). There needs to be some more thought and consultation with hardcore campers to bring this unit to the regular camping market.

Nobody currently sells an RV which pulls its own weight. None can be driven by remote control. We haven't seen a production RV with all electric heating and cooling entirely stored at the nose. We have never seen an RV with the vehicle to home capability to function like three Tesla power walls which would retail for over $2Ok installed. We have also never seen a production RV trailer with the full suite of Insta-Camp functions. The bathroom windows become functionally opaque. There is no ability to discern any details inside the bathroom when it is activated. We would have no hesitation using it as intended and demonstrated. Magnetic screens are inexpensive. This is a prototype. The feature set is incomplete at this stage in development.

We produced a long video with the L1 Prototype and Lightship's CEO months ago. Our statement above was mainly a response to your statement which was "Airstream has a unit that has many similar features and will probably appeal to a broader audience" Today, we are unaware of RVs in *production* which offer the Pebble features and advantages we highlighted in our comment above. We are of the mind that Pebble will sell every unit they can possibly produce for many years after the start of production even if they make no improvements from the current design. Their approach creeates a new market of buyers far beyond the confines of today's RV market. Todays RVs are riddled with barriers to entry which Pebble has innovated to remove. Of course, we understand that Pebble will make many refinements before and after production starts. We are among the large group of RVers offering input through this process. We have several hundred thousand RV miles under our belt. The company is not only comprised of RVers, but listening to a large and active group of us with direct access to the team at Pebble. -Producer Tim

Cool to be able to park/fine tune rv position without tow vehicle. The range anxiety issue is a result of using a much less energy dense energy source/storage. Simply batteries dont have the energy density. It’s just physics. Example. My truck can tow 16k without a blink. With auxiliary tank I have 800 mile range. 15 minutes to gas up and boom another 800 miles. Leave the EV guy and his fancy trailer at the charging station while he sips a latte in his skinny jeans and man bun wondering if he is ever going to get to his destination. Another example applying great tech to wrong problem.

800 miles at 80mph is 10 hours of driving. Maybe you are into that, but most people will stop sooner than that for biological reasons. EVs are much less expensive to operate compared to a truck with 60+ gallons of fuel onboard. In short, for those who do not like money, do not eat food, do not have bladders, and who enjoy frequent maintenance, your has truck is the best solution. For everyone else, EVs and self propelled RVs like Pebble are with looking into. Now: The aerodynamics of the trailer are more important than the weight when it comes to EV range. -Producer Tim

You are correct. One gallon of gasoline contains about 30kWh of energy. Unfortunately, your gas truck wastes the *majority* of that as heat, noise, and vibration. Surprisingly little of that explosive energy in a gallon of gasoline actually moves the wheels or does meaningful work. EVs powertrains are much more efficient when it comes to movement per unit of available energy. Additionally, the fumes of an ICE vehicle are exhausted at street level, causing health problems for those living and working along roadways. -producer Tim

My EV truck goes over 400 miles on the highway without at trailer. I can pull a trailer like this 200 miles without help and perhaps as much as 400 miles if it is pulling its own weight using onboard motors. We'll see how those figures work out next year. Either way, no sweat. The beauty of a trailer is that I can drop it at the site, charge my truck elsewhere, and return to the trailer with ample energy to share with the trailer if need be. A solar stationary 10kW solar array could charge this in a day or two with good sun. A hydrogen generator could charge this in less than an hour, as we covered in our recent Rebelle Rally segment filmed out in the Sierra Nevada's where there was no shore power available for miles. However you slice it, this RV carries more power than just about anything on the market and can accept energy from a huge variety of inputs including a cheap 110v 20amp gasoline generator, if thats what you want to keep around. One could add 10kW energy during the day with a noisy generator and use power at night without breaking rules related to noise. It wouldn't be our first choice, but it could certainly get the job done. Millions of RVers rely on gasoline or propane generators and they can keep on doing it if they want to. Solutions are easy. Perhaps you have the more difficult task of remaining irrationally negative and curmudgeonly. It looks like a lot of work. -Producer Tim

@@MissGoElectric The truth is unless you stay in a RV park with 50 amp service to charge your trailer and your truck, you are severely limited to where you can go and how long you can stay. Even if you got a 200 mile range while towing, and I haven’t seen one yet pulling lighter trailers, you’re limited to a round trip of 90 miles from home. Do you really want to disconnect your trailer and take your truck to some charging station? I’d prefer to relax at the campsite and not worry about finding a charging station and waiting my turn. Running my generator is a last resort for me, that’s why propane for water heater, furnace, stove, oven, and refrigerator works best. You just can’t justify the inconvenience of your setup. As far as me being irrational, bet I’ve got way more experience than you camping, and my opinions aren’t skewed from trying to sell something. I guess your a EV enthusiast trying to go camping, and I just like to go camping with the least amount of anxiety.

This comment has some of the biggest lies ever about EVs and just solar in general. I have a Ford lightning extended range rated for 320 miles. Know what I get on the highway? Less than 250, and after the first fast charge, less than 200. No ev truck currently out will get you the 400 miles at highway speeds; so I'm gonna call you a liar. And a 10kw portable solar array? Are you serious? Forget that I HIGHLY doubt the trailer will even come with the electronics to handle anywhere close to that array, but a 10kw PORTABLE array will cost you over 13k and weigh 1000 lbs with allpowers 400 watt panels, which are the best bang for your buck. So way to go, perhaps you didnt lie but you portray an insane solution as a simple fix. And if you intend to say a permanently installed solar array, where on earth would you encounter that? What scenario would exist where you didnt have access to the grid but theres a random solar array to tie into while traveling? Also a 40kwh battery moving 6000lbs is going to barely provide any range increase. My truck weighs 7000lbs and has a 131 kwh battery with previously said range. How the hell is 40kwh and 6000 extra lbs gonna make you break even with a trailer? The future is looking pretty cool with battery technology and the promise of electrification, but people like you vastly overstating current capabilities at best just pisses realists like me off and at worst cons people into buying products that wont perform anywhere close to the expectations that you preach. @@MissGoElectric

Many people are still unaware that there are already 2.5 million EVs on the road in the USA.
