Captain Bob. The person I can remember teaching me to draw. Thanks for posting this. I hadn't thought of this show in decades until tonight when my wife asked a question about that guy that used to teach drawing on TV. She meant Bob Ross but Captain Bob was what jumped into my head from out of the abyss of my childhood memories.❤️

What a wonderful memory, My grandmother was my art teacher, and she encouraged me to watch this show. I just remember, you couldn't keep up with it, couldn't pause it, couldn't go back.. I did grow up to be a professional artist and achieved my goals,, Thanks Captain Bob Cottle.

Used to get up super early before my 3 siblings so I could draw with Capt. Bob! Ironically, as much as I watched him, I only remember the cat episode...

Like some have posted here, I spent many Sat. mornings watching Capt. Bob. This man taught me how to draw, and develop my natural talent. Like others I miss this show and wish kids today had something similar.

When adults across the U.S. worshipped under the brushstrokes of Bob Ross, we kids in New England rallied ‘round the crayons of Capt. Bob. If you too got up at 6am to watch this on Channel 5 then you know that theee is nothing more comforting.

This is exactly how I remember how the show was coming into our house way up in Berwick, ME, with just a plain old T.V. antenna. Even though the reception wasn't very good, I used to jump out of bed early on Saturday mornings and just be in awe on how well and quickly Capt. Bob could draw. Thanks for posting this, it brought back some great childhood memories!

I loved Captain Bob!!! I used to sketch along with him whenever he was on, he was a great teacher as well as a wonderful artist. I bet if he were on tv today he'd still be popular.

What a wonderful show that was! I loved drawing with Capt Bob when I was a kid. The only real challange was waking up in time on Saturday morning. I believe he was on at 7:00.

Channel 5's own kids shows were great in the 70's. They never talked down to kids or dumbed things down. Jabberwocky was a good one, also.

Whoah I’d forgotten about Jabberwocky!

Yes, I remember the 1960s incarnation of "Captain Bob," with the puppet "Jasper." It aired on the original WHDH-TV, Channel 5 on the television dial, before losing its license to a consortium called Boston Broadcasters, Inc., who founded the current Channel 5., WCVB. I think the earlier "Captain Bob" show was essentially to provide local wrap segments of. Cottle hosting nationally-syndicated cartoons. I don't recall which cartoons aired, though.

@gymnastix I also don't remember Capt. Bob's association with R+R, but reliable sources insist it was so. I do remember Jimmy Blaine hosting those cartoons, along with two parrots named Rhubarb and Jose.

I have read "Captain Bob" also hosted a nationally-syndicated cartoon series, "Ruff N Reddy." I vaguely recall having wtached "Ruff 'N Reddy," but have no memory of "Captain Bob" hosting the series, juistthe cartoons. Cottle was a congenial children's TV show host, as well a talented artist & teacher of drawing. Too bad no video of "Captain" Bob Cottle's WHDH series seems to have survived.
