As someone who lives in an area with a nutty amount of pecans, just toasting pecans like crazy gives you a really nice snack. Its so nutty and buttery on its own. Its a nut with a ton of potential.

People who eat meat literally wear shirts showing cuts of meat on whole animals. They also walk around with "BACON" shirts and can't stop talking about wings and burgers but please tell me more about how a tiny minority of people in this country bother you because of THEIR diets. 🙄

I gotta try this. I love the pecan part of a pecan pie. If your system isn't accustomed to dates, don't eat these and go for a long hike. About the same technique with dates, cocoa, vanilla, and walnuts makes a delicious snack that tastes very much like a brownie.

I’ve been making/eating something very similar to this for years as snacks when kayaking, camping, etc. I used to make my concoction with whole dates, but now I use slabs of ‘baking dates’; it’s cheaper and easier without affecting the quality much. I flavor mine in a great variety of ways; nuts, coconut, chocolate, coffee, extracts, etc. I make them into bars for packing purposes. The bars travel well, taste great, and provide some quick energy.
@kayleesoria8459

So curious, do these and other similar snacks not require refrigeration? If not how long will they last on the counter?
@jamessoltis5407
@jamessoltis5407 2 жыл бұрын
@@kayleesoria8459 I initially put mine in the refrigerator to ‘set’ for a bit before individually wrapping them. As I stated previously I take these things on extended camping/kayaking trips. Naturally, I have no refrigeration on these trips. Dates fare pretty well without refrigeration, as do the other ingredients (nuts, coconut, etc.) I’ve traveled with them for weeks without any of them going bad.

Just as a heads up: rolled oats are technically gluten free, however most oats are processed in facilities that also process wheat products. It is very common for rolled oats to have gluten products contaminating them (not a problem for most people, but a big problem for celiacs). As far as I am aware, Bob's Red Mill is one of the most common companies that certifies that their oatmeal is not processed in facilities in a way that would cause them to be contaminated with wheat, barley, or rye. But if you have celiacs disease, you probably already know that.
@wildsheepc
@wildsheepc 2 жыл бұрын
I live a couple of miles from Bob's and can offer up that their gluten-free product offering (even the cornmeal, which also isn't inherently GF) are made on a line with a different air filtration system, so they are SERIOUS about their GF products!

This is a great, healthy dessert! I eat dates as a snack every night, so this is the perfect dessert for me. I never eat refined white sugar because it’s so bad for the body. Date syrup is a healthier sugar substitute, it’s sold at Sprouts, Walmart, Trader Joe’s. I put it on my gluten-free waffles, muffins, cereal, etc. Pure maple syrup and coconut sugar are also great options. I would love to see more recipes with no refined sugar. 😊
