Good to hear these two DOD metal brothers compared. They both sound the same to me too. The DOD FX56-B will have more range in sound since it has a bass control, so I'm happy that I own that one of the two.

I have quite of few HM-2 type pedals to include HM-2 MIJ and MIT. I have been going with American Metal lately. I think it may work the best for standard a=440 tuning which is my preferred tuning. But it is hard not to run my actual HM-2s. Awesome demo as usual! All of your buzzsaw posts have been extremely informative.

They both sound surprisingly good, not gonna lie i think the basic american metal was my fav. Its nice that theyre not just straight up clones of the hm-2

i really appreciate your exhaustive dedication to these HM2 style pedals. i have the FX56, and I keep trying to make excuses to buy an HM2, but I think I should just stick with the American Metal and make the most of it. It seems like the “presence” control on the FX56 basically functions as the Hi Mids control on the HM2, and the Lo Mids is internally maxed out

Thanks! And yeah, you're right. No "need" to buy the hm2 if you own an fx56

@@DomeNightbearer thats what i needed to hear lmao i’d love to see you do a RAT series in this style. Not exactly for metal, but they get heavy too

I actually reviewed an original RAT and the Lone Wolf Audio Plague RAT. It's not my favorite sound tho.

@@DomeNightbearer everyone has their favorites. i actually love to combine my 80s RAT with the American Metal. it fills in the cracks of the chainsaw grind

Like the other posters both sound surprisingly good, wasnt expecting much! Basic American metal sounds slightly thicker and nicer tone I think

Good demo, would have been nice to see what the supper was like if the EQ was flattened. Thanks!

Both sound the same to me. The differences between matched tone settings is as much as when comparing HM2s or Big Muffs from the same production country/year. Own the FX56 and I love it.

When I was a kid my distortion pedal was an Super American Metal, a friend of mine have a DOD FX59 Thrash Master, the circuit of both is very similar but the components of the FX59 are better quality and less tolerance (gold ring resistors vs gray band resistors), the difference of sound is immense. Maybe you please can make a DOD FX56b Vs DOD FX59 ?
@TL-angzarr3 жыл бұрын
Source please? After reading your comment I dug my fx59 out of the closet and opened it up. No gold ring resistors. I have a suspicion that it could be a manufacture date or run situation.

@@MolltoMotto that's why I asked, is it something you saw or something you read. I'm curious now if it's a change in production runs or something. My fx59 looks to be a 92 what year is yours?

@@TL-angzarr that was my first dist pedal, it was on early 90s, I don't have that pedal now, I have to emigrate because socialism and my friend, the owner of the FX 59 have to emigrate too, so... But if you can compare the two circuits, tolerances apart, they're similar.
@greenman45024 жыл бұрын
very similar, the american metal sounds maybe a tad flubbier on clean channel, but i prefer how it sounds as a boost on the distorted channel as it doesn't go over the top as easily. not only that, but i like the really old school look of the pedals.
@brozio77 Жыл бұрын
the only difference is bass pot. for chiansaw sound are the same, but if you wanna use the ine without as preamp has way too much bass.
@santiagomoreno6963 жыл бұрын
Is it just me or the distortion knob does pretty much nothing from 9am to all the way up? I also have this pedal and mine behaves like that
@DomeNightbearer3 жыл бұрын
In front of a driven amp it's of no use beyond 9 o'clock. You should however hear a difference in front of a clean amp!
@2DclanSnipingTeam9 ай бұрын
Why is the level maxed? You're not hearing the pedal. You're just overloading the front of your amp. Turn the level down!
