PEDAL SHOOTOUT: DOD American Metal vs. Boss HM-2

I bought my American Metal pedal around 89 or 90 (a friend had/has one from even earlier)! I used it to record my (long defunct) band's EP in '93. It made some great sounding riffs, especially with their FX78-B flanger. The way I used it, with the presence all the way down, it was beyond scooped in the mids, and thus very Metallica "Justice" sounding. It sounded good with my solid state Peavy Special 130 amp (with the amp I use now, a 70s Fender Twin, the presence has to be turned up so I don't have a big muddy mess). I also have their wah, their Overdrive Plus, and Digital Delay (a really cool pedal, which I used to do The Edge style delay tricks). Even though I went all in with Boss in the mid 90s, I still have a fondness for my old, underrated, gear. Happy to see this stuff getting attention in the KZbin age!

Very cool story, thanks for sharing! I love the American Metal pedal, it's so sick! Sadly, I sold off my DOD collection though. I had almost every pedal from the Jason Lamb series.

I kept them all, fortunately! Back then they were the cheap alternative to Boss, and still came in metal enclosures. And I think they're all made in the USA, which is unheard of. Even though I now use a VOX wah, I have to find my DOD one, because it also doubles as a volume pedal....

I got the extreme dod, free with guitar package , omg it was like first time I play a true in the face fuzzy organic sounding pedal. Amazing

In 1993 I wrote and recorded a riff to a song that is extremely similar to the one at 1:29. Down to the note. Like minds...!

Incorrect about the American metal pdeal. It did not come out in the 90s; it came out in the late 80s. I own one that I purchased new in about 1988.
