Man, I can't wait to come back to this video once I have my pedal steel. Thank you! I'm looking for guidance on whether I should get a single neck or if I'll regret not just going for the double right away. Thoughts?

Aloha Hamilton, great lesson! I worked out the intro/solo on my own and then planned to compare it against yours. My old 70's 6140 Bud couldn't find a lick on the first string. I have and E and F and a D pedal only (no KNLs) but I usually can pick up stuff. Then I watched your lesson and saw you have a first string raise. Phewww! P.S. Read the comments re Crocs. Pedals on a 6140 are close, very tensile and hurt my feet if I play barefoot. It ain't recommended! Anywho thanks for the lesson, very kind of you! Johnny Pal, boot pedaler.
@licksandtricks68093 жыл бұрын
Hey Johnny - thanks for dropping a line! I've never sat behind an all pedal setup such as yours. Regarding the first string raise, I left that one alone for so many years, but I have been digging into it a bit more lately. Mine is only a half-step, but I'm thinking I might modify it to be a whole step. At least with the lick in question there is a bar move workaround. Here's to happy steelin' :)

Hello Al, great playing my friend, I have messed around with this song for a few years. As you mentioned the chords are G, Am and C. Question: I see you playing the Am chord on the 5th fret. What pedals etc. do you use on for the Am on the 5th. fret? Thanks
@derbyd10 Жыл бұрын
If you have a pedal or knee lever that lowers the 3rd interval a half step you can make an Am at the 5th fret. I think he was only demoing the A chord )the 2 interval, in the progression.

@licksandtricks68093 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Mine's an '82 :) Ah the Emmons hat! I bought it from another steel guitarist who made a handful of them. I think he sold them all though. Maybe Kelsey will make some merch for the rebirth of the Emmons company.

Lot of guys on the forum play barefoot. So what's the big deal about crocs?
@licksandtricks68093 жыл бұрын
Barefoot is not for me. With the narrow Emmons pedals it requires manipulating the muscles in your feet and toes in weird ways which is uncomfortable (for me- lots of different feet out there) and taking unnecessary attention away from my hands. Crocs are great for practicing. They’re comfortable and I like the shape.
@firesteel013 жыл бұрын
@@licksandtricks6809 right. comfort matters. I'm not the shoe police. I can't play barefoot either. Narrow pedals. Maybe on an old 'Bud. It would never occur to me to question what a person wears to play. If it feels good...

This is the song that turned me into a steel player. Heard it in 68, but could not afford a steel until 73. Been playing ever since. I worked this out decades ago, but I enjoyed watching you play it. For For 49 years, I have been able to work stuff out just by listening, but there are two that I have problems with. I'll come running, had a problem with and the same song done by John Hughey on the Emmons course which i no longer have as my border collie bitch chewed the tape. It was not tabbed in the course, it was JH playing it. It's a different version than on his album. Have you done either?
