Any chance you could answer a few questions about it? I've been researching them and think I want to go with the Voodoo PX8 Plus but wondering about using pedals direct as well as thru the effects loop but have no where to turn, help me! lol
@mattgilbert73476 жыл бұрын
@@fwfrazorx Get the PX-8 Plus. If you want to use 4CM for the effects loop, it's easy (either PX-8 or the Plus will do it) - you just use one of the loops, you can even use the insert. The easiest way to think of it as treat your preamp as an overdrive pedal. FX loop send to Loop/Insert return Loop/Insert out to FX loop return. I think that's correct, I don't use effects loops in amps all that much. Basically, you want to send from the preamp (FX loop send) into the return of a loop/the insert. Then you want to send the loop/insert into the FX loop return. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gaaah5-MpK1jrLs I've never actually done it because I run everything into the front. Maybe that video will help. Think of the PX-8 as working just the same as the processor he is using - it's a de facto switcher with FX in loops.

I ended up making a pedal board due to being unsure of exactly what I even want at this time. It's actually working out well but I still like the thought of the switcher. Maybe someone offers training? Maybe you could reach out to Voodoo Labs. I have to imagine you aren't the only one to have trouble. If you ever think of getting rid of it let me know what you might want but again, I have to imagine there is some kind of training out there and I'd start with Voodoo. It only makes sense they would offer assistance for customer support.

You'll need instant access switches on top of preset switches. That would mean using the older Commander preset strip with a PX loop strip. By default, that's how the larger GCX and Ground Control Pro usually work. You can have 8 individual instant access footswitches along with 4 preset switches.
@voodoolabofficial6 жыл бұрын
While the systems outlined below always physically have "Instant Access" switches and "Preset" switches available, you can go in and out of those as setup modes. For instance, the PX8 can run as an 8 loop strip, or go into another mode that lets you access the left side as Presets, and stacks the right switches as Instant Access. If you go to 2:14 in the video, you'll see a walk thru of that.

@voodoolabofficial6 жыл бұрын
A PX switcher is 22" x 16" and has a specific pedalboard product made so it can fit under the board. A medium is 22" x 13.5". You should be able to get in on the medium, but it would probably be better to use right angle cables since you'll run out of depth if the cabling has straight ends.

I've been through a few switching systems and the PX has the least tone-suck (basically zero). The fancy ones like Boss ES Series that can change pedal order or run effects in parallel really took a lot out of my tone. A decent buffer helped but overall it was still fairly lifeless when compared with guitar>amp or guitar> PX8>amp. I'll take quality tone over bells and whistles any day.

Uhhh- cool, but sorry WAYYYY too convoluted for me, and I suspect many of us 'plug and play' types. Gotta be a way to make it more 'car stereo', in other words: say, 3 banks, then just press and hold the corresponding on/off switches- done.

@@voodoolabofficial Got your Commander on the way. That one has banks for my presets. So I'll be able to have more than 3. The MIDI seems dead easy when compared with other units I've tried or looked at. I tried other MIDI controllers but I could not get them to work properly with my PX8. Having all VL helps with regard to compatibility. Also- yours are by far the truest of the true bypass loop switchers out there. Even the mighty Boss ES8 & GigRig2 sucked a fair amount of tone. Problems with buffers, all that tech in those units *must* make a difference. I like your simple "quality over quantity" approach.

Voodoo Lab Sorry my previous post was not clear. I meant there are only 3 switchs which can act as presets selector. To go to the preset 4, it seems you have to go to the next bank. Personnaly I found that 3 presets in direct access are not enough. Though for most people, I guess that's enough.
@LeviBulger6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it does suck that you would have to use midi instead of just using a bank switch, or having up to 8 presets like you would think. Would make a gig much easier, switching banks for each song. Falls short of being great because of this, and is incredibly overpriced. The boss switchers they just came out with not too long ago are a way better bang for buck. Even the joyo ones aren't too bad, but kinda have some tone coloration

John Silva So you can have more than 3 presets total? You change banks to get to those other presets?
@howardklopak6284 жыл бұрын
We use these, but our guys don't like Preset mode. They find it much more logical to just use the individual switches per loop, albeit can take some dancing when there are multiple stomps to do at once. . . so don't get me wrong, Preset Mode is a great feature, and having the option to use either way is perfect. However too bad VOODOO Labs is missing another useful feature, which would boost their sales IMO. Many guitar players need a tech to help with switching or want to be able to switch from more than one spot on the stage. It is so stupid that a player is moored to his pedal board by his mic stand, has to hit drive for a solo, wander the stage to express energy, and then run back to the pedal board to turn off drive as the solo crescendos/completes. Sooooo dumb. We sorta solved this using the MIDI Solutions Dual Footswitch Controller. We have a remote dual footswtich with LEDs (On and Off, double switch) to turn of the main solo drive on/off. But it would be so easy to just have a second PX8 with midi cables running between the PX8s, and allow the switching to be just mimic one to the other. The programming change would be so simple for Voodoo labs, and many of us would buy extra PX8s. One for the guitar player, one for the tech, or one by the players mic stand, and another at the front center lip of the stage. The other use is that with 2 of these the one upfront could just be the controller, and the one by the amp could be where all the pedals are, or a hybrid with pre-input fx upfront, and the insert fx by the amp, whatever. . . seems to useful and easy to not already be reality. I did talk to a tech there and he just didn't get that it was a huge deal to certain customers. . . I mean why spend $1000 on a decent wireless and then be moored to a pedal bored. . . so unfortunately the idea died during the call. Oh well. . . so much for innovation. . . makes me want to build my own.
@mattgilbert73474 жыл бұрын
Voodoo Lab Commander seems like a pretty good solution. You still need it nearby but the pedals and switcher can be tucked away elsewhere.
