Great tutorial! Do you know if we have a possibility to turn on/off the strymon pedals when we change our presets?
@DavRuiz
@DavRuiz Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! You certainly can 'but' you have to route the pedal throught one of the loops in the PX-8 also, not only through MIDI if that makes sense. For me, the MIDI ability controls the preset changing, and each Loop (1-8) controls the ON/OFF on my pedals. For example, my H9's presets are controlled via midi command but the on/off is controlled by the loop. I hope this helps! Cheers!

Anybody know if you can send midi triggers to the px8 from a backing track rig? To kinda automate your pedal switching?
@DavRuiz
@DavRuiz 2 ай бұрын
Hey, I haven't used it that way, but according to their manual you can send commands to the PX8+ from another rig using MIDI. The PX8+ is designed to receive MIDI program change or control change messages, which allows you to control it remotely. This means you can use a MIDI controller or another device capable of sending MIDI commands to manage the PX8+'s functions. I hope this helps!

Do you know if one could change presets from a program like Ableton connecting via midi?

I imagine you could but I'm not 100% sure, I haven't tried it. Let me know if it works! Cheers!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video - you are correct in the fact that the manual is difficult to follow- it seems to have been written by engineers, not musicians. I have been using this loop switcher x2 years, without MIDI. To that end I’m running 14 pedals of which I run three in two channels in series and two out of loop 8 where I go from mono to stereo… example being tuner, compressor and phaser/ which I just manually turn on when needed. Questions : The insert loop, you mentioned using a noise gait or boost, where would that end up in the signal path? Also, I have midi pedals - collider& Iridium and am looking at modding Pog 2 to accept midi. On your rig,does the midi function take over programming of your analog /non-midi pedals as well? I’m new to Midi and was considering a Disaster Area midi controller specifically for the midi pedals because I cannot glean understanding of whether the PX-8 integrates midi pedals with traditional pedals assigned to loops 1-8. You had both types in your sound section but I didn’t see how you dialed up those tones… Again thanks for your video and any advise you can provide.

Hi Bert, thanks for the visit and the comment! I'm glad I was somewhat able to help with the midi control for the PX8+. I understand the struggle with the lack of information. Sounds like you have quite a few pedals on your board. I use my tuner and wah directly out of the Loop 8 also. It helps me boost the signal a tiny bit with the wah, and mute my signal with the tuner during breaks. Regarding the insert loop, it is supposed to break the internal connection between loops 6 and 7. So depending on your chain, you can use a pedal that will be engaged between modulation and distortion pedals (for ex.) I currently use my compressor there but I had my katana clean boost there before. I'm not sure what you mean by "does the midi function take over programming of your analog/non-midi pedals". I use the midi fuction to recall preset combinations of 2 of my pedals, this can also turn individual loops on and off to change the presets of the midi controllable pedals (Strymon and eventide). I haven't messed with the program of each pedal per see. But you know the PX8+ also controls the ON/OFF state of analog (nonmidi) pedals at the same time, with the preset option. I hope that helps! Let me know how it goes. feel free to subscribe! Cheers 🤘🤙

Hey mate, I've followed all your steps, but the H9 still doesn't change presets. Do you know what I might be doing wrong?
@DavRuiz
@DavRuiz Жыл бұрын
Hey Jonathan, could it be that your H9 doesn't have the latest software update? It happened to me when I got it. Other than that it could be that the cabling is incorrectly, I got that wrong the first time also. Let me know if that helps!

Hey@@DavRuiz sorry for the late response. I only have the H9 as a MIDI pedal and nothing else. So based off the connections (I think you're right and my cabling is wrong), I should put the MIDI out of the PX-8, into the "in" of the H9 and nothing else?

I wanted to private message you but do not see a way to do it. Right now I am playing with my PX8+ in the default setup which is "press button to turn on the pedal on that channel". I will eventually get around to the program mode once my band has a setlist together and I can start programming toward that. With that said, I have a Line 6 M5 Stompbox Modeler. I want to map it with midi to button 8 on my board as I will be using reverb, chorus, and delay and I want that to be at the end of the chain. Then I just push button 8 when I want the M5 on or off. Any idea how to do this? I really appreciate your video.

Although in this case, it may be better to just use the In and Out cables and not use Midi.

@@troycarter1303 Hi Troy. Thanks for reaching out and watching the video! It is much easier to program the PX8+ once you have a setlist or at least an order of the songs you will play, for sure. Regarding the M5, I had one as well and what I used to do is run it on the "INSERT" loop in the PX8+. That way I turned it ON or OFF directly on the M5 and I "saved" one loop for another pedal, no MIDI control or Loop needed for this setup. Sometimes I wanted to change presets in the M5 on the spot the same way as you are using it for modulation, reverb, or delay. You could do this setup using the Effects Loop in your amp if you have one. I do that currently with my Strymon Timeline. If you want to use Loop 8 and MIDI control, you can do it this way: connect LOOP8 SEND in PX8+ to INPUT L(MONO) in M5, LOOP8 RETURN in PX8 to OUTPUT L(MONO) in M5. That will give you ON/OFF control in the M5 using Loop 8 in PX8+. For midi: connect MIDI OUT in PX8 to MIDI IN in M5, that's it. I don't have the M5 manual anymore to guide you through the MIDI setup for it, but I hope is not too complicated. The next step will be saving presets in the M5 in the order you want them to come up in the PX8+. Let me know how it goes. I hope that helps! Thanks again for watching and subscribe!

Can this bring out pedal settings for certain presets ?
@DavRuiz
@DavRuiz 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Fernando, that's a great question. Unfortunately th ePX-8 cannot do that but the midi capable pedals can. I haven't too deep into it but depending on the settings that you use in your Strymon and Eventide pedals you can send commands to the next pedal. It's complicated because the manual doesn't explain it too well but I've done it just moving things around. Let me know if you figure it out! Take care!

@DavRuiz
@DavRuiz 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Armand, in this video I focussed on the MIDI controlling part of the PX-8 Plus (minute 10:00) but I can guide you through the preset setup: After you have connected all the pedals you want in each loop and you know where each is pedal is: - Click on "1A" switch and select the pedals you want in a loop (lights have to be red in this mode). Light on means the pedals will be on, in that preset. - Click "1A" switch again once you have your set of pedals on, then click on "SAVE" for a couple seconds until lights start to blink green. - Select the Bank and A, B, C, or D to save the preset. - You can save 4 presets per bank, up to 9 banks. To call a preset you just click on the bank and letter you need (green lights). When you are in instant access mode, you can turn on/off any pedal you want. Kind of like a "manual" mode. The prest mode selects all the pedals you saved as on/off in that specific preset. I hope this helps! This is the manual if you need help: all-guidesbox.com/manual/871412/voodoo-lab-px-8-plus-operation-user-s-manual-12.html?page=6 Cheers! 🤘🤙

There's no MIDI PC to turn off (bypass) the Timeline? That sux. It does have CC? I heard you say Control Command. I didn't know that. I still don't get how to select MIDI channels per pedal (if that's possible). It seems like a real pain if MIDI commands are always sent to all MIDI capable pedals (ie: they are all on the same MIDI channel).
@DavRuiz
@DavRuiz 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, you can bypass a present on the Strymon using the controls in the GLOBAL settings, not sure how to do it via MIDI with the PX8+ yet though. Has to be something based on the CC numbers which are combinations of the LED's in the PX8 but I haven't gotten to deep into that. It's is a pain, I agree. I wish the PX8+ had a litlle screen like the Boss ES series, where you can actually see what is assigned to each pedal in different channels, presets, etc. The main reason why I left the Timeline out of a loop is to save a loop in the PX8 for another pedal since I use the Timeline in the loop of my amp I turn it ON or OFF on the fly and it works for now. I hope it is working for you. Cheers!

Accoding to the manual bypass is cc# 102 with value 0=bypass and 127=engaged

Thanks. I had a Boss ES5 and it had terrible tone-suck. I sold it and got a PX-8. I sold the PX-8 because i really couldn't figure out the MIDI. I just use a PX4 and a little Analogman dual pedal switcher (it's got a remote, i use it up front for my Fuzzface and my Compressor + RC Booster, those are two core tones for me) which gives me 6 true bypass loops total. No MIDI, no presets. I have a Voodoo Lab Commander and am getting a second PX4 so i can have a few more loops and presets via the commander. MIDI is something I tried to use but just couldn't make the pedals do what i wanted.
