Pedals and Effects: June-60 by TC Electronic

A few years ago at GuitCon , TC Electronic very quietly showed off a surprise pedal that went largely unnoticed by the blues rockers and shredders present. Nick and I however, were flipping out. Based on the famous Roland Juno-60 synthesizer, TC Electronic isolated a single part of the synth for a no frills, faithful re-creation of that classic chorus sound. It’s simple, no frills, and what’s even better, it’s just $50!

I’m not sure if this is clear, but for those interested in stereo use: I believe the output is TRS, so in Stereo mode, one could use a Y cable (TRS to TS Left & TS Right) for stereo operation. 👍

I own a JUNO-60 and its chorus is just a Roland CE-1 circuit with fewer controls. I am a fan of TC's stuff, but besides this pedal's cool aesthetics, I don't really see the point, and it does not sound like a CE-1 to my ears. Still interesting nonetheless. Love the vids though guys! Keep 'em coming!

I'm not familiar with the CE-1 you're talking about, but if it's just this other thing except that it doesn't sound like that other thing... wouldn't that be the point of this? If this sounds like itself and not the other thing then you'd get this if you wanted to sound like this and not the other thing.

Feels like it's been forever since a P&E vid showed up on my recommendations. I've missed ya. As for the pedal, it's got a beautiful tone. My only complaint would be the lack of a way to adjust the rate. Otherwise, it's solid. This would be great for some Cure-style tunes.

I hate to be the corrector but position two and four are not out of phase on a strat unless the leads were wired backwards. Position two and four are just two pickups in parallel.

@@Siggy_Sour hey siggy, it still works on my macbook (latest OS and latest version of logic pro X) however, in logic pro x at least, the plugin will only appear in your pluginmenu if you place it on a track which has a stereo input. It won't appear in tracks which are set to a mono input. Hope that helps! Love that little plugin.

You know, i do have option anxiety, i have 450€ to spend on delays, i thought i would grab one cool thing like a strymon, but it keeps me up at night because it just dumb, i want buy four separate delays, it's easier. ALSO this June 60 is like 35€ now on thomann, it's an absolute bargain!

Great review! I had to pick one up. I know it got some bad flack for not being exactly the JUNO 60 chorus, but I don't see why. It's a great pedal with a sick sound. Not running a stereo rig but I disagree with you about putting chorus after reverb. I have some modulation after delay/reverb I’m my chain and it sounds lovely.

the wood is real and there are internal pots on the circuit board I'm not sure what they do though.

There are 2 different dip switches on the board…1 for switching allows you to choose 4 different LFOs for position 1 and 2 on the pedal and one for matching the input gain for either guitar or synthesizer…have one…in my pedal chain I run this…a TC 3rd Dimension Chorus and a Boss Super Chorus…each a step up from the other and when all engaged…such a glorious noise.

@@PeterSokol-bl5vz Thats cool. I no longer have a pedal board or large collection of guitars and amps. I sold everything to save my moms house when her husband passed away in 2020. I have 1 guitar and bias fx 2 now for playing guitar using my computer. So lots of effects but im still enamored with digital delay and distortion. Those have been my 2 main stays for 30 years i just cant quit them hah.

@@Robster-Craw that’s a shame my friend….so sorry to hear about your Moms hardship……..I am sitting on about 100 pedals…I have 2 boards for my guitar chain….one for my bass….and two for my keyboards…and always trying new ones in my chains…also have a positive grid amp with all the modeling capabilities….just love pedals and effects….really like the line TC s putting out…and let me tell you…the 39 dollar pedals you can get now are just lovely….have all my expensive ones and just love this golden age of inexpensive well made instruments and effects…just purchased a Berhinger Poly D for $599….. and it’s actually better than a Moog Model D…it has 4 oscillating banks instead of 3….a built in sequencer…..a Juno chorus….and the ability to connect with modern equipment…a Moog is 5k…it’s ridiculous to pay those prices….happy to be of help.

I love the Juno 60 chorus - this does not sound like one to me. It's way too throbby - but i'm guessing that is due to it being used in mono. A true Juno 60 chorus is a dual BBD chorus. These days that is a luxury but in the 80's it was an economical cost cutting compared to the 3 BBD ARP Solinas and Odyessy string machines. I'm guessing that you are hearing half the chorus and when used in stereo the second delay line smooths out the pulsing? I'm guessing that's what the mono/stereo switch is for? The whole point of the Juno 60 chorus was that it took a very plain synth signal and made it glorious wide stereo ear candy. Since most Juno users were very familiar with how it sounded in stereo headphones the whole issue of Behringer trying to release this in mono was the dumbest thing ever. They recalled them and made them stereo because of the backlash. I want one - assuming Roland can't be assed to make the real deal - to make lame synths more like a Juno 60. If it's good on guitar too that's a bonus - but the the real market for this is people with lame VST synths etc who want to make them good and wide. The pathetic TRS jack is a real nuisance but the result of the orginal dumb design. I hope Roland can give us the real thing. They let TC come out with the mono 3rd Dimension (2 BBD chorus which also failed to understand the stereo thing) - and then came out with the Waza Dimension which is awesome.

Decent demo. Number 1 sounds decent. Number two is way too fast and does not sound like Juno chorus. The two together do not sound great in guitar. I believe this has a dip switch that you can play with to adjust things but it doesn't really sound like a Juno chorus having used one.
