Just a couple odd reports of a injured bear, or some other kind of animal, and after that people connect anything similar they see to that legend. Not to say there aren't report which may be of legitimately odd thing, but IMO a lot of it is human error.

I'm no expert but I'd say that the bear has injured one or both of its front paws. It looks in quite a lot of distress and possibly in need of medical attention. Perhaps you could phone an animal response team if you encounter the bear again so it can get the help it might need

Pedals could've been moved to a sanctuary by the Fish & Wildlife Services and local officials but they chose not to and now this bear who never harmed anyone is dead and in a gruesome way. When he/she was standing in the yard in front of the man, it looked like it was giving a silent plea for help. I'm not sure of the outcome but I would've tried my to help him or her. Maybe call somebody, like a local veterinarian or (as much I hate to say it) a zoo so that the poor guy can at least have a chance to continue living. The chances of survival in the wild are severely slim in the condition that it's in now.

This bear appears to be limping when on all fours. Since he is not using one of his forepaws at all, the only way he can walk is upright. He is also rather thin for a blackbear, which may indicate he has been kept in a small cage for much of his life. In any case the lighter weight probably is the reason he can walk upright for such long periods.

Yes. While i do agree that this bear shouldn't have been exclusively targeted, Wildlife managers have absolutely no control over individual animals. The bear was legally killed in a legal hunting area, so i cannot say whether or not it was wrong or ethical, all i can say it was a legal kill, fair and square.

Animals can survive losing limbs. I've seen lots of legless/snoutless/tailess animals in various documentaries (also have seen a tailess squirrel and a one legged bird with my own eyes.). So it's possible but yes the risk of infection is there. I think this might be a recent injury though, both his front legs seem fucked up and I can't' imagine him getting by like that as a cub, what would he have done before he could stand up?

+SubparPanda yea my 17yo kitty went blind for about a week due to high blood pressure. I get home from work one day and he's bumping into stuff as he tried to meet me at the door, off to the vet we went. Detached retinas. after 2-3 days he was tuned in to voice and could navigate pretty good.... It took about a week for the meds to kick in. Good thing with cats and dogs, I don't know about other animals but they can regain sight of you get the blood pressure down... like I said he's on meds , and I'd wager he has at least 80% of his sight.

I still get mad someone killed this poor bear!! 😞When I was on my way to work. I heard on the radio awhile ago. That some guy shot the poor bear 🐻 and was bragging about it.... To have a broken paw and then be killed after all that he went through to get by.. Is heart breaking.. He was so trusting and never once charged at that person recording him in this video.. SMH Horrible.. 😔😔💔💔💔

Oh My God! thanks for the video. This is an amazing bear, it wasn't matter if he's been amputated or born like this or even if a circus dumped him, (I not mean that's ok) the fact is that he's surviving the best he could just like the rest of us,,, living every day with joy. For me he looks "beary" :) happy!!!

Indeed. If you look at some of the bits where he goes onto all fours (eh,. kinda all two-and-a-halfs) his back seems way more arched than usual. Not sure if that's because the posture changed his spine or because he was just skinny and underfed from his handicap so his belly didn't fill out.
