Now we know where all the Microfreaks have gone! Absolutely love the TD echoes coming from that Mel9, but with your own retro-mod twist. I've been planning to patch one of my Volca Samples to Mellotron, but you're getting such great vibes from that EHX I might just have to bite the bullet. Never thought of putting a Mellotron into distortion, but it really thickens it up. Nice to hear downtempo, too. It's rare but what a feeling you created. Fab track and thanks for the notes, they're so useful.

Thank you so much for the kind words! It's not quite ALL the Microfreaks! Seriously though, I had the first one and it's so versatile, so when I found a second one as an ex-demo model really cheap I just nabbed it and I couldn't be happier about that. Yeah, the Mel9 is surprisingly capable. Like, it sounds better than a lot of VSTs that I've tried. I've been further playing around with it the last day or so by plugging it into a Death by Audio Reverberation Machine which sounds dirtier than the Mojomojo and also has a really lo-fi, clangy reverb thing going on. Sounds pretty haunting. I have quite a few pedals, and I've been playing with modular so much I had kind of forgotten about a lot of them. So I'm glad I rediscovered a few things for myself. Hopefully you can check out some more of my channel. And thanks again!

Cheers, Scott! Been a bit difficult to make a video of late, so thanks for your patience! We recently had our second child so having a newborn in the house can take up a lot of time! Things are starting to level out (somewhat) now so I'm hoping that, soon enough, I can get back to doing this more regularly. As always, thanks for your support!

Thank you very much! I had a lot of fun making this. I had kind of forgotten about that random drawer full of pedals that I had lying around! I've been really liking your direction on your new channel as well. I am definitely intrigued by the exclusive use of the Roland MC-707. Great work, as always. Cheers!

@@thedigitallost You are welcome! Check this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZe0opt6q8aNhNk I tried to make a faster song (124 bpm) only with 707.

review of the model samples soon?! please?!
@thedigitallost3 жыл бұрын
Sure! I'll think about it! I haven't had it for that long so I don't know all the ins and outs yet. It's a bit of a strange piece of equipment. The way it sequences and accepts and puts out midi is all quite different. Build quality is great and I'm really liking the sounds. A bit of menu diving when you have to set up which samples go to which keys/triggers, but once that's all set up it's pretty much knob per function and sounds awesome. So far though, I've been really liking it and have no plans to get rid of it. But yeah, let me get more used to it and understand it a bit better and I may make a video! Cheers.

It sounds like that Model: Samples is working out really well for your drums! I also like to see the Launchpad Pro being used for its hardware sequencing ability. I was really interested in that for a while because of that. It was a smart move by Novation. Is the acoustic-style bassline coming from the Samples, too? Where are those sweet pad-like sounds coming from in the beginning and throughout?
@thedigitallost3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yeah, the Samples is actually really neat. A few weird setup and sequencing options, which is apparently a bit of a common thing among Elektron boxes, but so far so good. The Launchpad Pro works really well for sequencing hardware. It is well made and high quality, but I just don't feel a connection to it. I actually have it for sale right now! Again, it works perfectly and as absolutely intended, but I'm just not gelling with it. The bass is all from some heavily filtered and over-driven Dreadbox Hysteria module. I had been interested in getting a bass synth, but then realized that the Dreadbox module, properly driven and filtered, would fill that role absolutely perfectly. And I already had everything on hand to get that going so that is my new bass setup. The pads in the background are a microfreak set to supersaw with a bit of detuning. A few mild changes in the chord progression, but largely it just drones on in the background through the Canyon delay. Works for me!
@luctmelod3 жыл бұрын
@@thedigitallost I'm surprised that the Hysteria with your audio treatment is able to make such a convincing electric string bass sound! That's really cool. Ah, the Canyon delay.... was very interested in that for a while, too. Sounds so lush!

I forgot to mention in the video description, and I'll fix that soon, that there is a slow, gentle and irregularly timed LFO coming from Pamela's New Workout that is modulating the cut-off on the low pass filter. It seems to help give it a slightly more human feel so it's not just boring boom boom unchanging bass.
