it was a good dissection; my question is the book says that the maintenance fluid is 100 ml/ first 10 k then 50 ml/second 10kg and 25ml/ pre the rest of the kgs. what do you have to say about that.

Hi , I think the fluid calculation has gone wrong. For 4 yrs 16 kg expected wt + 10% dehydration - the rate of fluid comes to 87 ml / hr not 52 ml /. hr regard dr parveen. Pediatric nephrologist. …. Positive vibes. Big fan of Aetcm

Calculated amount of maintenance fluid by rule of 421 should be given over 24 hour or 48 hours sir. ?

As per Resuscitation council algorithm, maintenance fluid requirement is calculated over 48 hrs. But as per BSPED guidelines, maintenance fluid requirement is calculated(according to the weight) and divided by 24. It is better to adhere to Resus algorithm, for the purpose of UK exams.
