So, I did this knee shield pass to my Black Belt Professor I'm class the same day I watched this video, and I managed to pass his guard to get to side control. The best part is, I did this right in front of his brother, who is a brown belt, and he said out loud, "Vinny, I love that move!". I replied, "I got it from KZbin!".

it's effective based on his demo, but shield is primarily played from half guard....an established half, so i wouldn't really call it the knee shield pass.

i was thinking the same thing...sort of a pre-half guard pass....i don't see open guard knee shield often...but i will start looking for it or even this for a scissor attempt which i do see often. we have some irritating half-guard knee shielders or even high-shield that are 'very strong' from that position which is what I was looking today....solutions to that.
