It's crazy that Lionel Messi is a 7 time Ballon Dor winner, 4x champions league winner, has been involved in 1,000+ goals and assists, he's won 10 La Liga titles, and regardless of what he achieved at Barcelona collectively and individually throughout his career in his prime, his career was based on the World Cup, remember many fans and analysts were saying that "Lionel Messi cannot be among the GOAT conversation until he wins the World Cup" and the final he lost in 2014 against Germany of course that was heartbreaking and that hurt his legacy, in 2022, he finally won the World Cup as the best player in the tournament and produced one of the best World Cup campaigns I've ever seen and he's gotten his flowers and there are some who think he's the best ever player to have played the game and despite the fact that he finally got the one trophy that has been in his head for a decade, there are still some critics. Some call the World Cup rigged, say that Argentina got lucky and won because of penalties and I can't believe that the biggest event in all of football, a tournament that's once every 4 years any player dreams of winning the most prestigious trophy in football, it's crazy that the World Cup is now a 7 game tournament and that's nonsense. The penalty for Argentina memes are funny, but with obvious logic Lionel Messi produced magic at the World Cup, the great goal from outside the box against Mexico, the goal against Australia, the assist against the Netherlands, that assist against Croatia where he sent Josko Gvardiol out for a spin, and more importantly the 2 goals he scored against France in the World Cup final to win his country the World Cup, the dribbles he completed and chances he created, yet people attribute his World Cup performances down to penalties and say they got lucky and call it a 7 game tournament, Lionel Messi was able to do all that stuff on the biggest stage of football at 35 and he's achieved so much greatness and it's also down to longevity as well. He's received a lot of stupid criticism throughout his career and that hasn't stopped him from achieving so much and being the greatest player in the history of football.

I've seen some very stupid Lionel Messi takes and the criticism he's dealt with despite being the world for a decade and has 7 Ballon Dors to his name. If Lionel Messi ever played in the premier league, he'd make it a farmers' league if he was in his peak, and in the champions league, some of his best individual moments came against English opposition, the hattrick against Manchester City, he beat Manchester United in a UCL final twice a team that dominated the league under Sir Alex Ferguson, in the second leg against Liverpool, they crumbled but in that first leg, he singlehandedly won that game for Barcelona that free kick goal was something else and at his peak even without proving it in the premier league, he's still better than Cristiano Ronaldo and he's had that premier league agenda throughout his career and for me Lionel Messi doesn't have to prove himself by being able to produce in the premier league.

The whole Messi can't win without Xavi and Iniesta is so stupid, because after they left domestically Barcelona were still winning La Liga, 2016, 2018, and 2019 and in that same period his striker partner Neymar left and Lionel Messi was responsible in carrying that Barcelona team still winning titles and without Xavi and Iniesta, he managed to win 2 more Ballon Dors and could win another one this year. Barcelona during his final years without those 2, they looked average and one thing remained certain for them, Lionel Messi's brilliance and his impact is beyond the goals, assists, dribbling, chances created, he was responsible for 85% of their attack and I'm not surprised that after he left Barcelona have been in Europa League in the last 2 seasons. When they collapsed against Roma in 2018 after leading by 3 goals, Liverpool in 2019 after leading by 3 goals, and that embarrassing 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich, none of this is down to not being able to perform in the champions league without Xavi and Iniesta, or Messi himself, the whole team around him was awful and it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that whenever they played a top team they'd get destroyed. It's not just the club where he shushed those haters.
