@@stich1960 yeah she was, and you can tell she liked the attention. He wasn't bad at his job, he knew what the issue was but said it needed a cheap part. TBH, he's not totally wrong. He doesn't know someone was just there and tightened the chain, so I can see why he thought it may be faulty. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I don't think he's the type of guy to rip people off.

+Tyler Pearson I actually clicked on this video kind of expecting to see something like this. It's extremely common. I used to do plumbing work with my friend and his grandpa, we pissed in potted plants, sinks, you name it. We were told that it's rude to ask to use their bathroom. Lol. Like it's not rude to piss in their plants and sinks. Eh. We were kids. Didn't understand. Still not entirely sure why he refused to use their bathrooms.
@helenkruse
@helenkruse 8 жыл бұрын
you said If a repairman asked to use my bathroom, they are welcome. Then again, I live in the country so there are plenty of trees out there.haha My late Husband was a brickmason who subbed work. We did residential and commercial. So many weeks I would drop the bills off and pick the checks up at the builders and they had memo's attached. The memo was concerning the use of the new bath tubs, sinks and toilets being used way before the water was turned on to the homes. These were in brand new subdivisions where they could urinate on any tree. Any crew caught using the fixtures were fired. My late Husband told his crew, you piss in the tub, or anywhere in the house, you piss your job with him away. He fired two guys for urinating in the tub. These were brand new homes. When the brick is going up, the sheetrock isn't even finished on the interior. So this happens all over. They are pigs, plain and simple. Pigs with no respect for themselves, their jobs or for anyone else.
@YodaWasSith

you said I am sorry to hear about your injury. Some people are just naturally pigs and have no respect. They do this to others, and treat people like trash in other ways and think it's funny,yet when it is done to them, they go beserk. Like the old saying goes, "You can dish it out, but you can't take it" fits those type to a tee. Hope you aren't still down with your injury and if so, get well soon,if not,either way, I wish you the best in all you have to do and all that is here and now and things to come.

The tight chain to the flapper of the toilet is a pretty tricky issue because it would have always leaked from the time of install. Visually it would look as though the flapper is closed and it is nearly an impossibility that the chain could over tighten itself and cause a problem. It is much more likely the flapper needs to be changed and it is extremely inexpensive.

+Holder Bee The only thing that causes the chain to get tight like that is if someone does it. Toilet chains do not magically get tight, so it's not something the plumbers would assume is wrong. I see that as an honest mistake. One person even suspected something was up and fixed it for a $13 part, I doubt the profit margins on a $13 part is high enough to pull something when you are suspicious.

***** And actually, most of those guys tried to replace the flapper. That usually is what goes bad, *especially* on older toilets. The rubber gets oxidized and hard and warps to the point where gets stuck moving up and down or won't make a seal. For that matter, with the faucet, they don't just come unscrewed on their own. Notice that the only problem that does actually happen, the dish washer drain line getting plugged, was correctly diagnosed by all of them (if I remember).

Most likely because national chains have many sources of income from various locations and use their brand as a ‘verification’ that they know what they’re talking about. Plus, they can afford to lose a customer here or two over large charges. Local owned business can’t afford to lie, deceive, or push faulty product because they’ll go out of business fast. If a single location of a huge chain goes down In flames, sure; the higher ups lose some money but they don’t untimely go out of business. Unlike family/local owned business.

Yeah, that whole test bothered me. It's something that can only happen intentionally. A smart and honest repairman would look for problems caused by a natural failure, not an intentional sabotage. The most common reason for a leak in that place would be a rubber gasket which naturally fails over time. To stop and consider that someone changed the length of the chain intentionally before trying to fix the cause of 99.99% of failures of that type would be unnecessary. It's like if a car stops running properly. You don't say, "well let's start by checking to see if someone changed the software on the engine management controller." No, you would look for things that break, not things that could only occur from intentional and educated sabotage.

My brother just bought a house in Seattle Washington. Some of the repairs he just had done oh my God I could not believe the amount of money he spent. We are now KZbin repairman. Lol. No question this is a problem Nationwide probably worldwide. It's a roll of the dice the type of help you receive. But when you get an honest repair man you better keep his number and spread the word.

When a plumber turns up they're not looking for sabotage, if you're told "it just keeps running after it's flushed". First thought would be: needs a new siphon, not: somebody has messed with it. The toilet problem was a bit unfair, chains don't normally tighten themselves.

ok, there is no way the chain would suddenly tighten itself, so why would anyone think that the flapper wasn't leaking?? Any one would replace the toilet guts, takes 10 min, and you have a solid toilet.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I am a handy kinda girl &I do regular maintenance & minor repairs for a few friends for free. I just make them watch so they can do it themselves next time. If one of my friends called & described that problem I would stop on my way & pick up a flapper. If it wasn't doing it last week, like you say, the chain didn't tighten itself. That said, it's pretty darn obvious if the chain is to tight.
@DarkAlice
@DarkAlice 8 жыл бұрын
The chain can tighten if it got hooked on another part. It's happened to my toilet a couple times. You let the trip lever fall too quickly after flushing, and it can manage to catch the chain and keep the flapper up. Obviously that's a faulty design, but it's still something that can happen.
@dashcamandy2242
@dashcamandy2242 8 жыл бұрын
My mother did it once... (She's a daughter of a plumber.) The chain popped off the handle once and she re-connected it too tightly (just enough to allow water to leak through the flapper). It wasn't a continuous running of the toilet as shown in this video, but it did cause the tank to "top off" every minute or two. She thought it was the flapper valve failing. Gotta say, I'm proud of her for pulling off the lid and getting in there and trying to fix it herself! :-)
@alexbouchard3880

To be fair 90% of the time a toilet is running like that it needs a new flapper valve. No one would expect someone to tighten the chain nefariously.
@adambirman2379
@adambirman2379 25 күн бұрын
The chain is in plain view and is what controls the flapper valve to open. It takes two seconds to see that. You can see the slack in a properly adjusted chain. It is easier than Legos.

The tightened chain is a bad set-up. There is no way a preciously working toilet would suddenly have a chain that is too tight. It would be better if they kinked the chain. I've seen the chain get kinked and it just needs to be unkinked. The kitchen faucet leak is common as people twist the pull out wand as they us it. These predatory plumbers exist everywhere.
