In the first scene we see old Sphero moving on a street, then a blue dragging beam start pulling it from the ground. Zoom out from Earth and we see that a spaceship (like Mon Calamari cruiser) is the one that kidnap Sphero. Next scene is inside a droids workshop on the ship, old Sphero moved between different droids from the movies and arrived to an upgrade machine that control by the one and only R2D2. The upgrade machine worked on the old Sphero and convert it to BB8. Next scene we see BB8 return to Earth on a T-70 X-wing, and have a dance party on the same street.

+Vat19 that's not the problem the problem is companies making tons of different things and expecting people to what them. look at Apple a bigger iPad and a hundred dollar touchscreen pen (people have about five of them on each hand).
