$100 for one of those isn’t a bad price, actually. A company by the name of Sphero has made a mini (non-customizable) version of that for $50 more, so the fact that the bigger Disney equivalent is actually cheaper is a HUGE plus! They actually do not interact with the other droids. What actually happens is when you get to different parts of the park there are different beacons that send out a signal to the droids to make their sounds activate and it gives the appearance of the droids interacting.

I personally feel the cost for the droid is worth it. You get the experience of choosing your parts, building it and you get to have a remote controlled functioning droid. Not the most complicated of remote systems, but it is something. You get to see it interact with other droids, too, albeit minimal. The plastic is sturdy, too. Certainly a great gift for a fan regardless of age. However I will say that the R2 units are MUCH better and easier to control than the BB8 units. BB8 units are very wobbly.
