The guitar intro is fantastic . Great tone and sublime touch epitomizes melodic and high voltage blues licks . The perfect way we wish and dream to play . Intense . Flash and shades . Moving and stirring . GO ! GO! GO !JEFF !!!

Jean-Luc… thank you for your kind and heartfelt comment. Admittedly the time I spent playing for Ray taught me encyclopedias from his musical influence and had me applying my heart and musicality to what the guitar could contribute to such an ensemble. I’ve played with many iconic musicians over the years but the one and only Ray Charles holds such an impressionable time in my career that I am quite proud of. Your words mean a lot my friend. Thank you

All the guitar players who might see this might find it interesting at 0:45 seconds of the intro I bend the note so far up that the guitar string popped off the bridge… Fortunately (at 0:50 seconds) with one well placed swoop of the hand I was able to pop the guitar string back on the bridge saddle and continued the rest of my intro solo like nothing happened. The blues/rock ‘n’ roll gods were definitely looking after me at that very moment!

@@mrshred2899 The music is for everyone. If not for America and the forced integration of many ethnic cultures there is a good chance that jazz would never have appeared. One thing Buhaina (Art Blakey) once said stuck with me. He said that were it not for America there would be no jazz. Africa alone would not have produced it. It took the melding of the European and the African continents and their respective cultures to produce the music that we now call jazz. So take pride in this music. As it is part of your forefather's legacy as well as mine. Keep your ears open and boppish regards, jazz traveler!

I'm looking for a piece of footage, likely from the mid 80's (like this one). It's Ray performing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I had always liked Ray's music, and knew his hits, but hadn't really bought any of his CD's or albums. But then I got hit with a one/two punch that made me a fan ! One was a movie I had seen on cable (HBO, Cinemax, or somewhere) that had Ray's song "Drown In My Own Tears" on it that made me sit up and take notice. The next night (I think), I noticed Ray was going to be on the Tonight Show, and I naturally watched it, and was BLOWN AWAY when he and the Doc Severin Band played "I've Got News For You", and that cinched the deal... I started buying Ray Charles CD's to catch up on what I was missing. Every few months I check youtube to see if this footage is posted... so far nothing. If anyone has this performance, could you please post it ? It's a killer !

Jeff is probably old enough to remember the Flip Wilson show....there was a skit where Flip, as "Columbus", was trying to convince King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella to finance his trip in search of America; the king and queen (both played by black people in the skit) remained stoic and unimpressed until Flip/Columbus said "if I don't find America, we won't have no Ray Charles". "What", says the queen, "no Ray Charles?", and she starts throwing her pearl necklace and jewels at him, yelling "go find Ray Charles! Find Ray Charles!"

What’s over dramatic !? The Blues?!? Ray Charles?!? The way Ray loved an electric guitar player to make him squeal ?!? I play this how Ray wanted it. I’ll never understand comments like this…if ya don’t have something nice to say then why do you feel compelled to make under handed comments like these… This is Ray Charles … get over yourself. Wishing you peace and happiness
