It seems like the common thread of all the giants in music is the connection between them and the audience. Ray could have sang the cooking directions on the side of a pizza box and people would have sat and listened. His voice and charisma were that powerful.

Helped a friend take his piano in at a concert in vail. Hilton rented the piano out in the vail valley and Aspen. One of the best shows I ever saw.

@@marcorose5121 I grew with Sinatra,dean Martin, sammy davis jnr, Perry como, Jim Reeves, Tom Jones,etc etc but my total favourite would be the king,the likes of harry connick Jr and Michael buble bring back that era ,I really like artists who give everything to there craft, Mr Charles, nat king Cole Sinatra, to lady gaga who I get lots of people dont,but I think shes absolutely fantastic, you dont really get stars like that anymore, it's all commercial, but elvis could sing any type of music, he would definitely be number one, Sorry for the long reply.

@ASSANE NDJAYE yeah, about 3 I think. A WHOLE LOT of singers covered Rays material. But Ray made the most money off of Elvis doing them. Elvis put a lot of bread on Rays table. Renald Richard co-wrote some Rays hits, and he had interesting insights about this. He said they received royalty checks whenever different artists covered he and Rays songs, but none of the money they received from other artists singing those songs came close to the amount of money he and Ray made when Elvis sang them. He said Elvis was so popular and so many people were buying up his records that the royalty checks he and Ray received from Elvis's versions were usually 8 to 10 times more money than they received from the other singers doing those same songs. 8-10 times more.... Damn. That's a lot of $$
