This song. In December 2003, I was getting ready to propose to my long-term girlfriend, but she dumped me because I had become an embarrassment - just graduated from college, but promptly laid off from my first job, so I was living in a city where I knew almost no one and working at a store in the mall to scrape by. Several months of personal chaos followed. Then I get a call from a girl I met at a summer job several years before and had hung out with a couple times doing dumb teenager stuff. She starts the call with, "I don't know if you remember me, but I have a beautiful baby daughter, and she has your eyes." More chaos. Then I met my 3-year old daughter for the first time. This song was all over the radio, "I've found a reason to start over new, and the reason is you..." That hit me. Fast forward. I've been happily married to that girl I barely knew for 18 years, and my baby is about to graduate from college. Every time I hear this song, I go straight back to where it started.

The thing about this song is it was SO overplayed on the radio in the early 2000s, that even people who liked it eventually hated it. This is the same thing that happened with bands like Creed and Nickelback. It's not that they were bad, they were just forced upon you every 20-30 minutes by one platform or another. But once you've gone a decade or so without hearing them, and your wounds have healed, you start to appreciate those songs again. This is a great song. It was just mainstream doing what it does and ruining a good thing.

It is ironic and sad. Thank you so much. She left behind a 4 year old daughter who is grown now. It's been awhile and it's still hard. Since that moment I've lost both grandparents, both of my parents, my step dad, my aunt and uncle. Then recently my best friend was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. So keep me in your prayers.

Same, but in the other direction, I suspect. If this were a "we just met" song, it would be amazing. It's definitely catchy, and the singer can sing. But the lyrics in the verse always gave me the impression that he cheated on her and is trying to win her back. If she's the reason he needed in order to turn his life around, why'd he do whatever things (yes, plural) that hurt her so much. I know relationships aren't all perfect, but this always came across to me as being too excessive for him not to have done something really, really awful to her.

Did you not listen to succeeding albums and just listen to the radio? Some of these bands had great sophomore albums and beyond. The creed song he mentioned that he listened to wasn't even off of their first album. As an example, they had multiple hit songs on at least three albums. The poppier stuff, sure, a bunch of one-offs. Maybe a second song here and there...but radio-played out and done for them. But many of the real bands built decent catalogues.

The thing about your channel that keeps us coming back is living through you discovering the songs that color all of our experiences for the first time. The feeling of hearing that song that is "our song" or "my jam" or the song we played before every game to get pumped or the song our mom danced around the kitchen with us in her arms and now she's gone. Everybody remembers the first time they heard the melody or recognized the lyrics that described them or their place and time in life and we watch with a kind of envy as you relate our songs to your life and it's magical. The tears you have when you speak of being a good dad. The love and hope for your relationship. Thoughts of your parents when they were where you are now and you were just a kid and their hopes and dreams for you. Music is a love language. We all speak it. But nothing can bring people together so completely as a perfect song that everybody can relate to. It's great you decided to walk this path. Not many people do this type of review. Many listen and they comment. But you take in the meaning and you allow your heart and mind to open up and you SEE and HEAR what some people never do. Anybody can listen to music and enjoy it. But you have a real gift for discovering music. There is a difference. Nice job! I'll be back as long as you continue! Also, You are leaving an amazing legacy for your babies that they can go back to as they grow into adulthood and they can see who you were and where you were at a time in their lives that they will only remember snapshots of. They will be able to go back and see what music made you truly excited and what you related to them and some of those songs will be ones they relate to you and your love of them and their mom and grandparents. It's very powerful to see a song you never knew your child ever heard of and it's in their playlist next to "Dad" with a heart emoji. Amazing!

What I love about this tune 🤯 is how it literally reaches out to the masses. Within one year after its release our church worship band was singing this at area events without having to change the lyrics too much in anyway. I was the drummer for our group for two years. Unfortunately our pastor has moved out of state and our church no longer exists. We played our last concert event in 2006 and this was one of the songs we played as well as a cover of Hair of the Dog by Nazareth. Great memories hearing this song. I hope you enjoy it. Everybody kind of ridiculed the group because of the funny sounding name... but not their material. Another beautiful tune you should check out is Truly Madly Deeply Do by Savage Garden. Love your channel.

I saw Cold Play with my son at the Atlanta Stadium in June of 2022. I literally had trouble standing up because the energy in the building, even with the roof retracted, was so epic! 23 years ago I met a man 3 days after I'd kicked my ex-fiancee out of my life. It was a horrifyingly bad relationship and I was seriously part-feral. I met this new man and he was educated, so tolerant of my terrible use of English and I did some hurtful things to him, not realising that he was a keeper. Thankfully this song came out and helped me understand my feelings. I'm still with that man today, and this was my dedicated song to him.
