Shinedown is one of those bands that their ENTIRE catalog is worth a listen. Im 32, a vet, and a musician. I was also bullied tremendously in grade school. Brent Smith, from Shinedown, Adam Gontier, from Three Days Grace, and Chester Bennington, from Linkin Park. These three voices saved my life multiple times in my teens. Adam and Chester helped me through being down, but Brent is the one that pulled me out to say "fuck this. I'm better than this". Shinedown's entire Leave A Whisper album is amazing

I so agree, leave a whisper was my go to. I was never to it saved my life point but it definitely helped me in some dark mental times. And every album is amazing. There’s been a couple in recent years that at first, I wasn’t as into as early stuff but the more I listened, the more I love it! Even when strung out Brent was an amazingly deep person.
@anessalyn10357 ай бұрын
So the monsters are each individual person. The first is the lead singer, Brent Smith , his monster is his addictions. The second is the little girl whose monster is her grandfather and what he's done to her. The 3rd is the little girls mom. Her soldier husband was called back to active duty, so she cheated on him, and he got killed. Her monster is guilt. The second part is very hard to watch. Great reaction. Brent has been clean for a while now, but it is a struggle.
@kerrysmethurst39727 ай бұрын
Brent got clean once his son was born and he’s so super fit and healthy now but the demons are always there. And Eric suffers with bouts of really bad depression so it’s no wonder pretty much everything they’ve written is about mental turmoil. Nice to meet another Shinedown nut 🤘🏻 it’s mad I’m a member to a hip hop artist who is my age and is discovering all this unfamiliar rock journey. I joined before he got to SD as I really enjoyed his reactions. I’ve never joined a membership to any other KZbinr. Just felt right 😊

@anessalyn1035 ty for the explanation! I love the song but never saw the video so I was confused but it was obvious the girl was the daughter not the widow.
@Jf261116 ай бұрын
I have been confused by the story of this video for years...further confusion by the tie in to Get Up with the same actress (presumably that one comes first). Even if this isn't true, it makes sense and is now the official explanation in my mind.
@karentheredhead6 ай бұрын
@@Jf26111 get up was written About Eric . The entire album Attention Attention is a story album about the band it's very personal but also every song can mean something else to listener. Get up is the positive to monsters. Basically get up is the song telling everyone don't let the demons win
@kerrysmethurst39726 ай бұрын
@@karentheredhead there is actually a kinda mini film where the songs and videos play out and Brent says things between the videos and at the end all characters from each individual video all come together gradually and former crowd and then they play the last song that was actually released from the album then write at the very end. Brent says a few words and then joins his band mates and they walk through the doors into the light and sort of disappear into the light, I love it but I love Shinedown so it’s if you’ve got the patience to watch each video for each release from the album and the bits in between so it’s probably about half an hour. I’ve watched it a couple of times and I love it and it all makes sense, all the videos from attention attention sorry to totally nerd out on everyone I always get like this anything Shinedown😂😂😂

Turned my KZbin on and it was there in my notifications you’d come back to shinedown. A lot of there songs are about monsters in one way or another. Brent ( singer ) has battled with addiction to alcohol and drugs and is now 16 years clean 🙏🏻. He has demons and also Eric ( bass player) suffers with with bouts of deep depression. Brent wrote the song “get up” about Eric. The music video for “monsters” is the second part of the video to the “get up” video. Pretty much every song has a nod to mental health or is 💯 obvious about mental health. Pretty much every interview Brent will address that they’re a band that have been singing about mental health for the best part of 20 years. There latest release “A symptom of being human “ is all over all the different genre billboards they’ve broken records with how many genres they have had number 1 records and it’s been played on so many radio stations. It’s the relatability and the music video is so relevant to all ages at explaining the issues so so many of us face. As you’ve said before. We are in a mental health crisis. Oh god I could go on and on but I really neeeeeeed you to keep on this journey and my girl Chelsea I know will be echoing what I’ve said. This is definitely the rabbit hole you want to go down. Their whole catalog is awesome.❤Shinedown singer Brent Smith battled substance abuse and alcoholism for a long time. Though he kicked the habits, he still has to take it one day at a time. "That's how I have to do it, but the dynamic in the song is not just about substance abuse," he explained to Louder Sound. "It's about a lot of different situations that people get put in because they have things in their mind that - for whatever reason - they used to sabotage themselves. They don't know why they do it, but they do it, and these are the monsters that I'm talking about."

💙💙💙 I love Shinedown so much!💙💙💙 I have so many favorite songs but I think 45, Call Me and Save Me are probably the 3 most meaningful songs to me because those songs were released the end of 2009 or the stsrt of 2010 and April 2010 was when I started my journey to get clean from opiates (Oxycontin) and benos (xanax.) These songs were my therapy while I was very sick and detoxing for weeks and then as I continued to work on myself and my recovery the songs were the ones I listened to when I wanted to give up and give in and go get high instead of dealing with all of the stuff I had been numbing myself from. These 3 songs remind me of all of the worst parts of my addiction and how tough it was to get off all of those drugs and how desperate and hopeless I was at that point in my life - they give me strenght now. They are very powerful songs about mental health. Thank you, BP, for reacting to more Shinedown. 💙💙💙

Shinedown does an excellent job of presenting deep and meaningful topics. Their music is inspirational to so many. The lead singer, Brent Smith, has struggled with addiction and has nearly transformed himself in recovery. It is the same person from Simple Man to Monsters, just with big life changes. His progression and story are an inspiration itself and then add to the music he and his band produce. They're a band that has helped many through struggles of depression and addiction amongst other "Monsters" we all struggle with.

I grew up with a dad that was bipolar. One that would make his kids sit in front of him while he threatened s*****e with a g** to his head. One where my mom would tell us to hide in our rooms until we knew what mood he was in after work. I was 17 when my mom told my sister and I that she only stayed because of us. We said then leave. She did. My step father was my hero. But I was grown then. My parents and step dad are gone now. I was the one taking care of my dad when he passed 3 years ago. He never admitted or apologized for anything he did. My young adult life wasn't much better. I was always trying to find love in the wrong people. So yeah, my monsters are real. But my God is greater.

I've found so much new music through reaction videos, both bigger artists and Indie. I don't know how people think it's stealing content. Shinedown is amazing and they cover so many great topics. The singer has a great voice.

I honestly can’t think of one song that doesn’t have significant meaning. Brent is an amazing songwriter, vocalist and story teller. It started out as drug addiction then went to alcohol and then he got clean and became the man you see in this video. The birth of his son was the turning point for his sobriety I believe.

In a culture where people just want to punish people who do bad things, it is easy to forget that we have all done bad things. I know a social worker who has worked with people who have done really bad things, but want to change because of regret. And many of them do turn things around. Their monsters are real, but they learn to keep them in a box.
