Just so you know the basic template of Dragonforce at this time was Power metal which was/is extremely popular in Europe, and Asia. The reason I said 'was/is' is that 20 years ago speed and melody like this song was the force behind Powermetal, and while some bands still play fast like this now, powermetal has evolved into a more mid-paced AOR sound. But bands like iron Savior, and Stormwarrior, still go heavy and fast so this sound is still out there to find.

Dragonforce came later in the late 90's/ 2000's and became the leaders of the genre by 2005, thanks to the video game 'Guitar Hero'... Yes, Ronnie James Dio of Dio was one of the pioneers of 'dungeons and dragons' metal in the 80's... NY metal band Manowar also founded their sound on songs about medieval battles ... swords and sorcery... when they debuted in 1982 w/ the album 'Battle Hymns'. Another founder of the 'power metal' genre was Swedish lead guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen (pronounced "ing- vey ma'am steen") who made a name for himself on the West Coast in the band Alcatrazz in the early 80's... He then formed his own band Yngwie J. Malmsteen's Rising Force in 1984 and releasing a mostly instrumental debut album, followed by a 2nd album 'Marching out' in 1985 feat lead singer Jeff Scott Soto... Yngwie J. Malmsteen recorded a number of albums w/ various lead singers and it was his shredding, fluid lead playing that made him a sensation... He still records and tours actively today. Helloween from (West) Germany made 'power metal' an commercial force when they debuted in the 80's... Their brand of high vocals, shredding guitars, double bass drumming... and lyrics about magical themes of 'dungeons and dragons' and mystical worlds made the albums 'Keeper of the Seven Keys' (Part 1 and Part 2) a success in their career in 1987/ '88. Herman Li has a youtube channel. He has a lot of videos just reviewing covers of Through the Fire and Flames, complimenting and critiquing how the guitarists do. I remember there was one where he said something to the effect of "[...] I think that's better than I could've done when I was younger. Good job! This is great!" He's a joy to watch, and you should definitely check out his reactions to the covers and the covers themselves. On your own time, of course, not for the channel. The lead singer for this song (his name escapes me, the band has had several lineup changes, and I can only remember Herman and Sam, the guitarists) actually did a duet with Sir Christopher Lee (Saruman, Count Dooku, and many, many other roles) called 'The Magic of the Wizard's Dream' in the group Rhapsody of Fire. You should check it out, man. It's glorious.

I only recently discovered Dragonforce because of Dan Vasc's covers of their songs (love his covers, too). First thing I thought of hearing their guitar was possibly influenced by Yngwie Malmsteen. I believe Dan Vasc & Victor the Guitar Nerd included the chorus of this song in their montage "10 Power Metal Songs in 6 Minutes"...which is awesome.
