Happy Birthday Buddy. Today would have been your 81st birthday. You were just a young man of 22 when you left the world in Feb. 1959. Gone but NEVER forgotten! You influenced countless of artists & musicians over the decades and your songs have been and STILL are played around the world! You left us with such a powerful and tremendous legacy of music and all was accomplished in a short period of time! A super talented young man who made many pick up a guitar and want to learn "That'll be the day", Peggy Sue, Rave on, Maybe baby, Oh boy and on. You are missed by many and we can only wonder and imagine what other great songs you would have recorded as time moved on. Happy Birthday Buddy, Rest in Peace and Thank you for the wonderful legacy of music you gave to us all......................

Notice the good old British Triumph motorcycles in the home movie shots.
@savecolaclibrarynow3 жыл бұрын
In 1958 Buddy Holly bought an Ariel Cyclone, Jerry Alison bought a Triumph Trophy and Joe B Muldin bought a Triumph Thunderberd, all 1958 models. " On May 13, 1958, the trio landed at Dallas Love Field on the way home from their tour. They immediately jumped into a cab and went straight to a Harley-Davidson dealership in Big D. They were looking to buy three H-D 74s, but the salesman was very skeptical that these three teenagers from West Texas had the wherewithal to purchase one, much less three of his expensive motorcycles. Put off by the borderline rude salesman who bluntly told them that there was no way that they could afford the payments, the boys flagged down another taxi, and went to Miller’s Triumph Shop in the Oak Cliff section of south Dallas. By the time they arrived at Miller’s, the boys had decided that a more proactive approach to the sales staff might be appropriate. So, Buddy introduced himself and his buddies, and produced a large amount of cash to ensure that the Millers crew knew that some serious buyers had just walked in their door. Whether that was necessary or not, no one will ever know, because Betty Miller, co-owner with her husband, Ray, recognized Buddy and the Crickets the moment they came in the shop. After trying out several bikes, Joe picked out a red 1958 6T Triumph Thunderbird; JI went for the Triumph Trophy TR6A, and Buddy bought the new 1958 Arial Cyclone. While the bikes were being serviced, the boys went to JC Penny’s where they bought some Levi jackets and new boots. They topped of their “biker look” with some motorcycle hats and gloves that they purchased at the dealership. Magnificent. Enormous amount of work involved here, separating the accompaniment into the various "Peggy Sue Got Married" chords and assembling them according to Buddy's demo. Mr. Hopkins isn't butchering the guitar break; he's tailoring the music to the vocal. Very respectful to the source material, I'd say.

Also, there were 3 passengers who payed 36.00 dollars each--which comes to 108 if added together. All the totals added, equal...NUMBER NINE--NUMBER NINE--NUMBER NINE.

Great song! And the real Peggy Sue (who married the drummer Jerry Allison of he Crickets, died in 2018). Very few people know the real story of what transpired before hiring that plane. Buddy approached Dion and said that they were the 2 main artists and should just hire a private plane (instead of freezing on a bus with no heat) . The problem was the plane fare. It was $37 and Dion didn't have $37! I was with Dion's cousin the day that the news of the crash came over the radio. She was in shock because she thought Dion did in fact charter the plane along with Buddy. She ran out of our apartment (little Italy Bronx NY) but returned a few hours later to say that Dion called his parents to tell them he did NOT take the plane. This was in the "Belmont" section of the Bronx, thus "The Belmonts". Before they were famous, they sang on the corner of 186th and Belmont Avenue.
