Oh! I was referring to the other guy who commented "nothing positive and a lot of negative"! I was wondering what all the negative was. I decided to go in a different direction tho. I got suckered into an advertisement on Pela's site- BOGO- but turns out the "get one" is actually a particular item, not another phone case. Bummer! I know cases are important, but I can't really justify spending $50 on one. I definitely appreciate what they are doing tho and think it's kinda funny you buried yours 😂

I own Pela cases and have bought them for other people as gifts when they are on sale. However, I would never be able to justify the full price of the cases. It feels like a tremendous rip off. $69 CAD for a case? I bet it costs les than $5 to make. That's a damn high markup, and to me, it reinforces the elitism of green capitalism.
@CoryAmesYT Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's an interesting point! I mean we aren't saying that the Pela Case is perfect here. I can totally agree - it seems that to make a product as "sustainable" as possible, part of that means making the product as accessible/affordable as possible. Not every company in the "sustainable product" space sees that as their objective. However, what phone case are you buying instead?

@@CoryAmesYT I still just have the Pela cases. I don't change my phone or my phone cases often. I do think they do a good job of protecting my phone.

Several of my friends actually really liked the idea, but are not willing to spend that amount of money for a phone case. If they truly cared about the environment, they would not worry about making as much money and lower the price. You cannot tell me that between shippingand making it they are paying more than $15 per phone case. Yet they are selling them for $60. These should not be more than $35 if they really want to help the planet.

You might be right. I unfortunately don't know Pela's profit margins on these cases, but sure, assume they don't cost much to make. And as well, the way that they discount their prices and run promotions has me convinced they have an extremely high margin to work with. I still stand by the Pela case as a great option, however, what I have on my phone right now is a case from agoodcompany. www.agood.com/products/plant-based-phone-case-charcoal-black

What caught my eye were the cool designs and colors! I had to calm down and do a deep dive on this phone case. Does it really protect the phone or is it all just for show? One review said these phone cases are not 100% biodegradable. Theres other plastic composites that are used to make these. And, well the cost. 60 bucks better protect the phone. Im still doing my research before i commit.

I've never had my phone break while using a Pela Case! However, what I have on my phone right *now* is from agood.com/ of which I'd highly recommend! www.agood.com/collections/mobile-cases/collection-filter-iPhone-iPhone_14_Pro Plus some of their designs (not sure which exact phone you have are 25-50% cheaper.

how does the button push feel? I've had other cheap phone cases that are really stiff and you have to push really hard to change the volume up/down, etc.

I stopped watching after your claim that '5-20 dollars over *comparable* products is a marginal difference'. If 1/3 of the price of their *most expensive* cases (60 USD for a phone cover!) is a 'marginal difference' then you're obviously willing to spend however many hundreds percent of profit margin they ask for to signal your virtue. I was interested in their products because it's a nice idea after all, but read some reviews, checked their pricing and there's no way in hell I'm spending 60 or even 40 dollars on a case that warps, can get loose, impossible to clean up and/or has graphics peeling off... when my 5 USD one serves me for seventh year and it would look like new if not for these few battle scars it got while keeping my phone from breaking. And I wouldn't be surprised if that turned out to be more sustainable than the combined environmental cost of production and shipping of the Pelas you went through in these seven years.
@CoryAmesYT11 ай бұрын
It highly depends on what you consider comparable. We might not share the same understanding of that. But very cool that you're holding onto the same phone/case for 7 years. That might in fact be the best move. Apples to apples, the env impact might be lower. I don't find your personal attacks all that productive, but even still, thanks for the feedback and glad you decided that the Pela cases weren't for you. This isn't intended to be a promotion, but a review of my honest experience of the company/the products. You can disagree with my opinions but doesn't change that they are my opinions. Cheers, -Cory
