Mike takes a break from his local bird monitoring around Hillsborough and travels the 281 miles to Cape Hatteras for a days pelagic birding aboard the Stormy Petrel II (June 10th, 2023). Winds were light that day, about 10 mph from the north-west, so was relatively quiet. However, we still managed to film Black-capped Petrel, Band-rumped Storm Petrel, Wilson's Storm Petrel and Great Shearwater. The highlight of the trip was a pod of about 12 Risso's Dolphins that were very cooperative. We also got the chance to have a closer look at some Sargassum seaweed and a variety of invertebrates that live on these huge floating mats.
