Pele is an Indigenous artist, originally from Waibene (Thursday Island) and now lives in Darwin, NT. She grew up surrounded by music and has been crafting her own style since childhood. Pele participated in the acclaimed Gondwana Choir during school and it was her experience at the choral camps that helped her learn how to sing, sight read music and listen deeply.
Being immersed in music led her to writing songs, crafting her own R&B sound with acoustic guitar and personal lyrics about relationships, self-empowerment and healing.
She credits her resiliency and faith with her drive to create music. Artists that Pele admires include Alicia Keys and H.E.R and describes her own music as ‘deconstructed R&B’.
Pele has appeared on stellar stages including the Dreaming Festival, Sydney Opera House, Yabun Festival and Darwin Festival. She has worked with Indigenous artists such as Jimblah, Nooky and Mau Power, who she met through a mentoring program. She opened for Dr. Shellie Morris AO at Darwin Festival in 2021 and was selected for this year’s prestigious Bush Bands Bash and Summit in Alice Springs.
She is writing, demoing and hopes to get into the studio to record an EP soon.
