Gratz, by the way wouldn't Imperious class be better suited for this match up- it is of a similar size and power to the Resurgent by having round 1400 canons (mix of heavy medium and iron) being just 100 canons down and still having great design

I vote Pellaeon. First, Legends seems to have higher firepower and shielding than Disney. Even small ships from Legends should have been able to bombard that Resistance base easily, but Disney's First Order needed specialized Death Star tech. It didn't even seem to be a true bunker, just carved out of the planet. Then there are all the weak spots created by the Resurgent's negative space design, which would not have been shielded. The Pellaeon just doesn't have quite the same weaknesses. I also didn't hear anything about commanders of equal skill on this, and while the Empire wasn't known for being the greatest strategic power (when Thrawn wasn't present), I don't see the Imperial forces chopping up control panels in a temper tantrum or failing to launch fighters because they were busy with a prank call. To me, it's a battle of ridiculously-overpowered weaponry/shields and competence vs oversized bad design, bolstered by an abundance of relatively weak weapons, topped off with ridiculous incompetence.

Not only would the Palleon have access to TIE Predators, which are a league of their own, but they would also have access to the Scimitar assault bombers, which are the most advanced Imperial bombers made in legends. I wouldn't be surprised to see it have an upsized battlecruiser version either.

Minor correction on the subject of the Resurgent Class (it doesn't change the outcome): It does not have over 1500 Turbo Lasers and Ion Cannons, it has over 1500 total weapon emplacements. That number covers all weapon types, including point defence. Considering it only has around 3 times the surface area of the ISD2, the vast majority of that number (which isn't even exact, it's just given as "1500+", suggesting barely any actual thought went into it) is likely lighter weaponry.

GRIGGINS1 Only high-end Legends statistics are markedly superior. Even then, there were multiple source books; many of which contradicted each other. I, personally, think that the stats provided within Canon are some of the few things that were handled better than in Legends. The canon stats are much more in line with any form of media (visual media, specifically) that we’ve ever been provided and are much more believable. They may not be greater than the stats of Star Trek ships, but that’s inconsequential, in my opinion.

Honestly I'd love to see either a versus or just a spotlight about the Vindicator-class heavy cruiser, it occupies a weird niche in the Imperial Navy as a medium sized warship that was used when a star destroyer would be overkill. Also it's the ship frame used to create the interdictor cruiser.

I always thought Imperial Star Destroyers used the best interceptors in the Galaxy, the TIE Fighter, as an anti-starfighter ship. Mobile point-defense lasers, basically. That is how they've always been described, as having "swarms of TIEs" around them.

it is a three dimensional ship, it can mount guns ventrally, dorsally, and along the "trenches". it is a ridiculous amount compared to legends/good star wars, but it is not unrealistic when you think about it.

I used to watch your videos daily just after they came out.This was back in the days of Random guy (whatver happened to him) and when you and only made 4 starship versus episodes. About the ship comparisson, i agree that the Resurgent wins because the Pellaeon is a COMMAND ship, it´s capacity for guns was sacrificed to carry command stuff, means sensors and communication equipment over guns. But it can probably out turn, maybe even outrun the Resurgent. Can you do next a Liberator Cruiser vs. a Venator?

Q1: The secutor would win. It's a fierce carrier whose fighters would defeat the Raddus's fighters and even the ship itself. It had a hard time intercepting 3 tie SFs and it's bridge and hangars were blown apart by a couple of missiles. Q2: Unless the First order dreadnought had fully charged autocannons just after emerging from hyperspace its a kurbstomp for either dreadnoughts. I know too little about Q3-Q5 Q6: Nebulon C would get rekt very quickly. The assault frigate would be a worthy opponent however.

I think that the Resurgent wins in a one-on-one fight. Also, I think the Pellaeon and other Legacy Era ships such as the Ardent Fast Frigate would be excellent complements to more traditional Imperial/First Order Ships like the Resurgent.

The reason for smaller efficient ships is bc of shit like the bombing run on that dreadnaught in TLJ and the a wing smacking the executor and taking it out by itself. Massive ships are too big of a risk, and to control a space as large as a galaxy you need a flexible navy with many ships that can work together as opposed to trying to make one ship a fleet. A fleet can cut its loses and withdraw, but like when the malevolence had its hyperdrive taken out they can't do anything except take canon blast after canon blast

One of the things that annoys me about the resurgent is the split body with the sort of scaffolding in the middle just seems to provide a weak spot that needs to be armoured as well, and a whole load of struts that would probably be massive structural weak spots, especially if you attacked with fighters.

The Resurgent really makes me curious. How do they manage to pack on so many guns? Is the power plant so advanced that it can fuel 10 or more times the weapons of an ISD, in a package that's a little under double the length? It really bugs me. Really, the whole turbolaser idea on capital ships hurts my thinky bits. Look at Earth battleships. The guns are clearly the focus. They're designed to bring the biggest possible guns into battle. The Iowa class packs 9 16 inch guns, and a variety of secondary 5 inch guns and 20-40mm anti air guns. They could have mounted dozens of dual 5" turrets in place of the big guns, but they didn't. Because a high volume of lower caliber firepower is just not as effective against hardened targets. As much as Star Wars was influenced by WWII (or WWII movies, at least), I'd have expected starships that were more analogous to surface ships on Earth. The design of the guns should have been central to the design of the ships. A Star Destroyer should have mounted cannons powerful enough to eviscerate smaller ships in one or two hits. I think whoever came up with the weapon numbers on the Resurgent just invented a random number, with no consideration for how it could support those numbers. That being said, I liked the idea of the big guns on the Mandator IV. Wonder why the MSD didn't have something like that.

Pellaeon ROFLstomps, especially with some hangers full of Predator TIEs. They have a century of tech development advantage. The Predators' L-s9.3 laser cannons for example were powerful enough to blow up small asteroids with a single bolt. You can imagine then, how powerful a Legacy-era heavy turbolaser battery would be.

I disagree on the Legacy tech not advancing- the writers talked about turbolasers being more rapid fire and stronger (why the Scythe class's forward-facing power is so potent and was able to downsize so much- despite being small they could still threaten Star Destroyers with raw focused omph), the Predators aren't just better but resemble Defenders in performance (though minus missiles), which makes their fighter complement something of a terror. And the Pellaeon didn't really downsize like the Alliance ships- while it's a bit shorter than the ISD-2, it's thicker wedge means it has more volume than the Endor era capital ship. The Alliance turned more towards mutually supporting smaller ships, the Fel Empire kept with large capital ships as the norm (though adding the Argent in for faster support). I would also like to note the Imperius class as an alternative, being a bigger, badder, upgraded Pellaeon.

Resurgence-Class hands down! Favorite Star Destroyer design. Blistering with firepower, shields and fighter support. Also, TIE/sf have dual pilots for rear support.
