The Executor Super Star Destroyer was one of the greatest weapons of the Galactic Empire - the massive 19km long dreadnought possessed enough firepower to subjugate an entire system. Still, such a large ship is not without its weaknesses. The Super Star Destroyer goes against the mainline Battleship of the First Order, the Resurgent Class Battlecruiser. Clearly based off of the Imperial Star Destroyers of old, Resurgents such as the Finalizer (Kylo Ren's flagship in The Force Awakens) bring cutting edge technology and weaponry.

The Starkiller base was not a mistake nor was the death star. They were very powerful and usefull weapons. The First one only lost due to poor strategy by the empire (not giving it a defense fleet) and the second one was only destroyed because it wasn't finished. Had these mistakes and weaknesses not been there the Empire wouldn't have lost

The weakness of the first Death Star was that it had an incredibly vulnerable weak point. The problem most certainly was not that it was too weak or too small, which seem to be the only things the First Order improved upon. Perhaps they did not expect the enemy to try an assault by a small team of commandos for a third time in a row. They were certainly not sufficiently prepared for one.

Scythe Seven the continuing usage of TIE fighters and its variety. 😑 why can't they use a fighters that has good defense and firepower. I mean they had the resources to build a planet size death star and build many ships. Why can't they build a good starfighter or greatly improve the TIE's?

Way overestimating the Resurgent. While they may be "faster" that's like saying a slug is faster then a snail. The Executor will have all of the time it would need to maintain fire on these ships to reduce them to rubble, before they could get around it.

the SSD failed against a lot of rebel fighters and mon calamari firepower... the Resurgents will easily wipe the empire's ties and the ships can provide 3000 guns to disrupt the shields... after that it takes the fighters to just blow up the bridge and disable the SSD...

If several fighters can destroy the shields of a super star destroyer... That is an instant threat... The imperials severely underestimated fighters... And resurgent ties from 2 to 4 destroyers paired with concentrated firepower would be able to take out an executor considering it had poor anti fighter defense

Mark George akbar told the whole FLEET to focus the executor, so I think 2 resurgence would have a lot more issues taking one out, but I think they could get it done but not an overwhelming amount of time, since their fighters are much better and the resurgence destroyers could destroy the engines (like what happened in return of the Jedi). So they would have to try as best they could to not get hit by every turbo laser the executor has, and have their fighters do all the work

Because of the amount of firepower the ssd can bring to bear upon any ship at any given time. I believe that the resurgence may not get to ram it, unless it was able to get behind the ssd. Cause f it tried the head on approach it would have almost every gun facing it and it has thousands of turbolasers. So there is a good chance that it could be disabled before its able to ram the bridge. But if it came from behind the ssd it would have significantly less guns to deal with.

I do find the explanation given for the number of fighters on an executor rather amusing. It claims the empire reduced the number of fighters, deeming any more overkill. The same empire that builds 19 kilometer long dreadnoughts and multiple planet killing super weapons...

@MLG Joe Yeah, I was thinking the same thing just a few days ago. Reduce the number of the capital ships and use the resources to upgrade to TIE Defenders. With the survivability of the pilots increasing, the experience level will also increase, not to mention their morale. It's a win, win.

While I agree that the Resurgent is a highly supreme Capital-Ship it's still not like stuff from another dimension. They are faster and more agile than the Executor but they are still not "fast" moving ships. They can not dodge the SSD's Barrage like a Corvette. While having strong shields, the Resurgent would be under constant, heavy fire most of the time and their shields would break in not that much time. Once they start to take damage i am pretty sure the Resurgents would be done soon. At least that's my opinion.

chris pearson You also have to consider the executor has Tie interceptors. Even without shields they are better than first order Ties. Plus X-wings didn't have any trouble destroying them and they were shielded.

MC80 Gaming They would not be able to penetrate the SSD's Shields in time. Keep in mind that the Resurgent is more like an "allrounder" and has for sure not a much greater, i am quite certain even less, firepower than an ISD II. The Executor stood the combined fire of the "entire" (most of) firepower of the Rebell's Fleet at Endor for quite a while. 2 Resurgents would not be enough to bring down it's tremendously powerful shields before it has destroyed one of them, and this moment the second one would fall in a short time. I think it could pretty safely even target both ships at the same time and rip them apart.

There is also the fact that the Executor has a lot more armor than the Resurgent-class. Based on the Executor's model used in the film, the armor belt could be up to 20 meters thick. That's 20 meters of highly advanced armor. Add the shields and the fact that the Executor is probably dozens of times larger than a Resurgent -class in volume, there is not much two Resurgents could possibly do to the Executor. The Executor's larger size would also allow it to carry more heavy turbolasers than a Resurgent-class.

for the first time in a really long time i actually disagree with you EckhartsLadder, when it comes to the starfighters you are 100% right, when it comes to the firepower i feel like you didn't give the total 4000 weapons enough credit, even though they would be weaker against the newer tech that'ss still overwhelming. IMPO, i feel like they would use this strategy but before the resurgents can penetrate the shields of the SSD, the one taking the damage would be obliterated by the sheer force of what is equivalent to a imperial fleet raining down on it. the other one could do serious damage but the SSD would at that point be at least partially turned around and then the other resurgent would be in some serious danger. depending on how many bombers were left after the second RSD is crippled would be the deciding factor if either ship leaves the fight. maybe my opinion has been poisoned by playing empire at war and always playing as the empire but still, the SSD is a crazy tank lol

agreed, in empire at war every version of the SSD (mods and vanilla alike) have this thing decimating entire fleets, while i bet the Resurgent destroyers are powerful (even though we STILL have yet to see them in battle) the SSD should still be able to conquer the battlefield.

One problem I see is the SSD wouldn't have just regular ties, should be carrying TIE interceptors, TIE bombers, maybe TIE defenders or other advanced imperial TIE designs. I think the TIE. Interceptor should shorten the gap between the fighter designs and the TIE defender would equalise the gap.

Slight problem, the tie defender actually never made it past the prototype phase, and so it wouldn’t be on the a SSD, which is a real shame, because they could have won the war. The rebels main strategy focused on starfighters, and the defender was a starfighter shredder. If the empire had never built the Death Star and instead went with thrawn’s grand plan, I believe the rebels, with their greatest strength removed, would not of stood a chance. Unfortunately, thrawn Wala’s doomed to fail as that is not what happened in the movies. ( is my favorite character if you can’t tell.)

@@haydenlummus8838 even so. The tie bomber alone is more than enough. They were notoriously pretty bad fighters but carried a very heavy payload. Just a couple to go after the shield generators and succeed would easily turn the tides if the battle.

I know this is kind of an old video but I think you've made a miscalculation the executor also has 40 tractor beams pacifically to stop capital ships from getting into its weak spots it's entirely likely the executive just move both ships into optimal firing positions and hold them there until the resurgent classes are destroyed

I don’t understand why everyone is making a big deal of the « less exposed bridge ». You know it still has large windows, right ? That’s precisely what caused the downfall of the Executor. As long as it is the case, no matter where the command center is located, a loss of shield will automatically render the ship vulnerable to surgical strike by fighters.

Plus the resurgent actually has some absurd weakness of its own, like its blastdoor-free open bow that fighters can easily exploit while the AA defenses of the ship are considerably hindered by all the pillars standing in their way, all the while being both a hazardous structural weakness and a massive loss of internal space.

I think I really feel the need to point this out to people. You all make such a big deal about the exposed bridge on the SSD. Since he said he was using the Legends for this there is something most people don't know. The Executor actually has a SECOND bridge buried inside the ship! Gasp! Oh my god! Yeah I know shocker right? Anyway part of the Executor's real downfall wasn't really the lack of a command structure, but the fact it was caught in the DS2's gravity well. The crew couldn't get to the secondary bridge in time before it crashed. Just thought to point this out to people.

If my math is correct, at 19KM long the Executor-Class is a staggering 6.5 times longer than the 2.9KM long Resurgent-Class. If you assume the two ship types are roughly proportional it implies something like around 40 times the surface area to mount weapons for the SSD! Which means, conceivably, the Executor could potentially have a ship the size of a Resurgence outgunned by around 40 to 1. The Executor just seems WAY out of the Resurgence league, even with two of them and their couple of decades more advanced technology this seems like a hopeless mismatch in favor of the Executor. I have a hard time believing that two heavily armed, advanced battlecruisers could take on something like a SSD by themselves. "Battlecruiser" implies a focus on speed and firepower over heavy armor. Ask the HMS Hood, a ship deigned as a battlecruiser, how that worked out against a proper battleship like the Bismarck. Plus the emphasis on anti-fighter weapons indicates a more flexible ship in terms of protecting against fighters at the expense of anti-capital ship weapons. The more I think about it, the more I find your lack of faith in the SSD disturbing.

Nope till a few years ago it was 8 KM. some moron decided to change it despite visual evidence. We have a Imperial Star Destroyer flying right under the Executor so we have a good scale comparison. and since the ISD is 1.6 KM the 19 km is wrong becasue the ISD would be far smaller. ALso anotehr channel has found out that fpr some franchises the official size state for a ship or fighter can be wrong.

Okay I'm going to also say something to compound your statement about the Executor. The ONLY reason why it went down was because of the Shields, but also because the backup bridge couldn't get online fast enough. As well as the fact that the Death Star II's gravity well drug it in. If the well didn't get it, it would have been still in the fight due to the backup bridge getting online.

you forget the 'support' ships, these include Flack ships, Cruisers, Patrol ships and Destroyers. all of which bolster its defenses. yes the best tacit of the 2 Resurgent's is to split up and try and encircle the Executor. the Executor Super Star Destroyer can counter this by deploying it's support fleet and its fighters and use them to attack the engines and shields of one of the Resurgent's while engaging the second with it's armament. since Vader's flagship only carries the best of the best, the most probable fighters being launched are gonna be TIE defenders, TIE Aggressors, TIE Advanced, TIE Phantoms, And TIE Interceptors. so fighter wise the ball is most definitely in the Exector's advantage.

No. I think the SSD would win. Even with the improvements of the RSD & those of it's TIE compliment. The SSD just has so many guns it could go right between the 2 RSD's equally dividing it's fire power to decimate both ships. The only advantage the RSD have are it's force of TIE fighters. I believe the F.O. TIEs could do some damage being much smaller, faster & harder to hit. The SSD would have to rely on it's own compliment of TIEs which would surely be over whelmed. Though not before cutting down the F.O. TIEs numbers down to manageable numbers for the SSD point defence.

A Covenant CAS class assault carrier (Halo) vs The world of Remnant (RWBY) The Carrier will have full shields and a full crew and Cargo Capacity which includes two Charon class frigates, a few hundred vehicles, which includes phantoms, spirits, banshees, ghosts, choppers, revenants, and wraiths but they won't have scarabs or krakens. The crew will have grunts, jackals, elites, brutes, drones and hunters with all known covenant weapons. The covenant forces can set up AA cannons and other anti-air battlements. Fleet Master Rtas 'Vadum will be in command. The covenant will have no knowledge of the capabilities of the Huntsmen Remnant will have its full military between all four kingdoms, all known hunters and huntresses as well as the four maidens and the Remnant military has already been notified of the impending invasion so they will already be ready for war however this will be the first time the people of Remnant has ever seen a covenant carrier. Remnant forces won't have the relics. Salem will be neutral so the grimm will be attacking both the people of Remnant and the Covenant forces. Round 1: The covenant can claim victory by glassing all four major cities of the four kingdoms: Mistral, Atlas, Vacou and Vale plus Salem's sanctuary in any order. However, the carrier has to wait at least one day before it can glass the next city/stronghold and it can't leave Remnant's atmosphere while it is waiting. Remnant can claim victory by destroying the carrier or eliminating all of the covenant forces. So pretty much Remnant will have around a week or so considering how long it would take for them to find those five glassing targets. Round 2: Same as round 1 except the Carrier and its two frigates will have no shields and Remnant can also claim victory by killing Rtas 'Vadum If you make this happen, I will subsribe and donate or something.

Hard to judge, mainly because of Remnant's hunters. Due to their unique skill-sets and different semblances, they're usefulness could be anywhere from spartan 2s to abnormally tough ODSTs. It really depends on the hunter. For instance, someone like Goodwitch could probability take out entire covenant divisions, but then you have hunters like Blake, who would be far more useful behind enemy lines than they would be in the thick of the fighting. It really depends on if any Hunters can board the CAS. If they can, then a quick trip to the power core would end the entire invasion. If they can't, then their best bet would be guerrilla tactics, try to ware the Covenant's numbers down. As for tech, the covenant is obviously *vastly* superior, but at the same time, Remnant's tech is no joke either. Those Paladin mechs could probably take out their fair share of wraiths, hell, even the older spider mechs could be a threat. Ultimately, I think if Remnant is given forewarning and has time to prepare, then they have a pretty decent chance of winning, however, if its a surprise attack, then Remnant is screwed.

Late comment I know, but one of the things that should be brutally obvious about the Resurgent class is how easily it can be blown apart once shields are done or once serious dog fighting starts happening in it's hangar crevice. How a design of a ship like passes by the millions of engineers without ripping it up is beyond me. I guess they must people from the CIS who outfitted the Munificent class star ship. 🙃

Actually in the 4000 years between kotor and the movies I am pretty sure there were a couple of technological dark ages when tech was forgotten. And from what I've noticed, whenever technological advancement is involved - the Sith are the ones helping it along. The First Order is generally really using Empire cutting edge tech that was streamlined enough to be somewhat mass produced. So really it was the empire that did all the technological advancement.

Brian Brown: How so? The executor has extremely poor anti-starfighter armament for its size. Moreover, it has a weaker starfighter wing. As already demonstrated over Endor, the bridge and dorsal superstructure is undefended and a small starfighter is able to travel the length of the hull without being intercepted by anti-starfighter fire. Such an obvious weakness is the Achilles Heel of the Executor. A knowledgeable Resurgent captain will be able to take full advantage of that with its superior starfighter wing.

Good premise but I think that the Executor would win. I believe a realistic engagement would see both First Order ships badly damaged and ultimately retreating. I think the Executor would takes lots of damage but quite honestly, its built to take damage. In a do or die type of situation, the Executor would win but with great damage. The ship would split the two First Order ships apart and give both broadsides. In return the First Order ships would do that too. There would be an epic space battle with the Tie fighters with the First Order Ties having the upper hand. If I were in command of the Executor I would also have AT-AT and AT-ST walkers go outside and fight too. This is practical on several levels, first they provide more fire power in a close up broadside exchange. Second they serve as alternate targets for damage that would be inflicted on the ship. Third they will probably take out a few First Order Tie fighters as well. If a First Order ship got on my ass, I would scorch it with the power of the engines. But honestly if things really got bad, I would just ram both ships. Actually, if I did that at the start of the engagement I might take less damage overall. There's also the idea of degrading the operational status of the First Order ships and then have walkers and troops board them and capture them. I only see the First Order winning by one of the ships doing a lightspeed run right into the center of the Executor. Even then what's left would bloody the other ship. The real world equivalent of this would be two light cruisers going up against the Yamato in WW ll. The Yamato will win.

I'd personally argue that all ships would be destroyed in the battle. It's all but guarenteed that one Resurgent class will be destroyed, as for the second, I think it's a 5.5/4.5 times probability that the second Resurgent would 'finish what the other started' (kylo would be proud) and finish destroying the Super Star Destroyer. However, not without being all but totalled by the Super Star Destroyer and thus needing either major repairs, or dismantelling and reused. And I would argue the same would happen in the 4.5/5.5 times the Super Star Destroyer wins. The sheer size of the ship gives it so much sustain against the Resurgent that it would be able to outlast the smaller ships. However, it would similarly be so damaged that it would be all but totalled rendering the ship relatively useless and needing major repairs. I agree that the First Order would come out on top most times, but not by supch a tight margin, and not without near total destruction almost every time

My suggestion is more vehicle battles I'd love to see a true lore be it legends/canon or both on the AT TE vs AT AT Useing all there bells n whistles to smack each other and see who truly is the stronger walker. Either this or maybe something like the AT ST vs AAT/TX 130 i think these matchups could be really fun seeing walkers don't get much love and are just used as something to blow up or cut most of the time.

I agree with the result. To be realistic one Resurgent may be lost, namely the one that confronts the SSD head on. As explained the 2nd resurgent will position itself behind the SSD and take out the engines so the 1st Resurgent will get the opportunity to fall back away and not get completely lost in the battle. Once the engines are taken out the SSD will be taken out as 30 years ago via the Rebels' method. First Order pilots on average are of higher quality and so are their fighters in direct comparison to their Imperial counterparts. The position flex given by the Special Forces TIEs will allow them to be deployed for space superiority or direct assault on designated targets on the SSD or anything else in between. The SSD may decide to use bombers against the Resurgents but the point defenses will be prioritizing them over everything else. Good video looking forward to the next one!

The Wookiepedia gives the Executor over 5,000 weapon emplacements, also if the SSD is facing Frist Order Ties would not the SSD come into battle with fighters other than just stander non shielded ties would it not come into battle with Tie Avengers, Tie Defenders, Assault gunboats, And Missile Boats, also the SSD would be launching Stromtrooper transports and Assault transport to make warhead runs against both Frist order ships, also sending into battle Assault shuttle to add fire support for its fighters attacking both the First Order Ties and Capital ships. All of the SSD's combat ships would focus fire on the ship at the rear of the SSD while the SSD would mass all of its firepower on one Resurgent quickly taking it out while the other Resurgent had to split its fire between the SSD and all the other combat ships swarming it allowing the SSD to refocus fire on it once the other Resurgent was destroyed. All the SSD combat craft except the Assault shuttles have warhead launchers, the First Order ties do not, also all the SSD combat craft have Ion cannons except the Assault shuttle and Tie Avengers, First Order ties do not carry ion weapons, Plus all the SSD combat craft have shields and hyperdrives. I give this battle to the SSD

The Executor could fire at each ship separately with so many turbo lasers that the Resurgent would have no chance. Also you didn't mention the Executor's heavy concussion missile launchers. These can pierce the shields of the resurgents, despite their point defense as there are just so many fricken missiles. It would take a shit ton of resurgents to kill an executor. Also I've never believed the THOUSANDS of turbolasers on a resurgent. That's absurd you know? That's way too many.

The resurgent class I think boasts about 144 TIE fighters of various design. It was able to carry more thanks to KDYs design improvements made in mechanically assisted launching system, letting each launch their entire compliment in minutes. A conveyer system pulled the ready to fly fighters from storage hangars deeper within the ship
