it's really lovely to see the trust they give you also lovely how you spend time with them giving them scritches but not bothering or smothering them with human wants/needs looks like you've become a part of the herd

Yes, that's what we suspect. We quickly figured out, when we first met them hanging out in the yard of our new house, that they felt like we had moved onto their land. We immediately accepted that idea, and began to watch them to see how they interacted. They very quickly saw that we were learning from them, through our "deer-like" movements, and decided that we were not a threat. After that, their curiosity let them get close to us. They are extremely curious about anything new in their environment, and eager to determine if it's friendly or not. What was really cool to notice was that they are all very individualistic. Only a few in any generation are brave and curious enough to get close to us. They are also smart enough to run away from any humans they don't know, unless we are there and give them a cue that the stranger is okay. Some deer are certainly not as smart as others, but the smart ones are very clever. You think you may have trained them to not try to get through a fence to nibble on a fruit tree because when you are there, they will stay on good behavior, but as soon as we go in the house, a smart deer will quickly try to get to the tree before we come back. That makes us laugh, but also accept that they are often more clever than we imagine.

We feed deer in our backyard daily. They are waiting and I give them a snack of corn, apples or carrots. We live in Michigan and it is cold winter right now. We live in a small subdivision that backs up to the woods and a large wooded nature preserve. They come up to our house and eat out of a bird feeder too.. I would love to live like you. I still am working full time at age 62. I have 2 grown sons who are 36 and 32. I also had a baby when I was 45. He is 16 now so he still goes to school. I had 2 Grandson sons also. Watching deer feed gives me a peaceful feeling. I am hoping to be able to pet a deer one day. A doe came within 3 feet of me and looked very friendly. We been doing this for over a year now. Sometimes there are as many as 15 in our backyard at once. They also lay in outback yard and chew their cud to digest their food. The fawns that were born last summer are the friendliest. They come up to our windows to see what we are doing. I am hoping they never feel afraid. Aaron the head buck looked very old and I am sure he passed away in early fall. The bucks are easier to tell by their antlers. I used to know all of the does last spring and summer. I do not recognize them as much after they grew their winter coats. It is so nice to see people like you in this busy hectic world slow down. and enjoy the happiness that nature brings. I am sorry you have received rude comments before. You must be doing something right because all of the deer love you.

It takes awhile to foster a relationship with the deer. But, they really do seek out humans. There are those that will say it is because you feed them. But, we tested that theory, and it is untrue. None of the deer here are being fed. And there are deer all over the country who are doing the same thing. But, it is worrisome as not all humans are friendly. There are hunters who will not be so kind.

It's evident that Deer, as with most animals, can sense human energy, in this case "love" as being the present energy. Today many humans do Not understand the process of emitting Love & Calmness. The big & small screen of Hollywood, selling violence and drama as "entertainment" is a good example of why people emmit Fear and Anger. No surprise.

I'm trying to learn how to tell who is Sunshine, Susie, Braveheart, Yoda.... there must be markings that you recognize or that they have one or two doe with them? I love watching the deer and their trusting relationship with you. It's so wonderful to follow their stories.
@PelorianPages
@PelorianPages 5 жыл бұрын
Great question, but not a simple answer. After some 20 years of watching them everyday, we've gotten to see the differences that are easy to miss at first. All of them have different personalities, so often just seeing the way they are walking gives us an idea from a distance about who is who. They read our body language all the time. It's one of their main cues as to how we might behave. In watching them, you start to see how they stand, hold their ears, etc. depending on who they are, and what's going on around them. Susie and Bliss are older and walk around like they own the place. The other deer are timid or testing their limits in the herd, and you can see them figuring out their place over time. All that affects their gait bravery. Size also helps in identifying them, as the older deer have more weight. What becomes very apparent over time is that they all have completely different faces. Susie has a mole on her her lip on her right side. Sunshine is blind in her right eye, and that eye is sunken in and smaller than her other eye. Zoe has a strange spiral of hair on the top of her head which gives her a tiny bald spot. Some of them have wide faces, others narrow. Once you get to notice the details, you realize that they look as different from one another as any two humans.

Is there anything organic you can spray on your deer friends that would keep the flies off of them?
@PelorianPages
@PelorianPages 4 жыл бұрын
A lot of people have asked that, and maybe there is something, but mostly we try not to interfere with what seems like normal aspects of their relationship with pests. They are wild animals, after all. It could be that the flies are "grooming" in a way, but that could be wishful thinking. When we look up "flies on deer" we get page after page about "deer flies," and that doesn't help at all. These are mostly regular flies on the deer. The deer don't like them, but they don't seem overly bothered by them. If I wave my hand around a deer's head to keep the flies away, the deer seem to know what I am doing. Usually, if you make a movement like that around them they get alarmed, but when the flies go away, they don't mind that quick movement. You can see that once or twice in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnSkiZ-XhrOlf5Y

God's creatures are so beautiful. I can't imagine gunning them down for sport. 😥😥😥💔💔💔 God put these type of animals here for food.... so if you do not kill and immediately dress them for meat, there's no reason to kill them at all.

@PelorianPages
@PelorianPages 5 жыл бұрын
They are not particularly bothered as they are used to the flies. In any case, they are all wild deer and wild flies. There's not much we can do. We moved into their neighborhood and we are just friendly. We don't feed them or otherwise take care of them, so they are on their own. We do really appreciate that they like us enough to hang out with us! Thanks for watching!
