Just a quick thank you for a well thought out review. When I saw your output numbers, I realized you are a real bike athlete.

Was hoping to hear your thoughts about Peloton Bike + $40/month package versus using the Peloton App + Smart Trainer. The Peloton App is much less expensive at $12/month vs $40, and getting something like a Kickr SNAP + your own bike saves you over $1000 on equipment. And based on your comments, seems like the power readings would be more accurate to boot! Does the app + smart trainer give you 80% of the full Peloton experience? 50%? 10%? Seems like you are in a unique position to cover this, maybe in a separate video. Also was interesting to hear that if you are a runner, you can use your own treadmill... again, how is experience impacted by doing this? Would you recommend subscribing to Peloton if you only run and you have your own treadmill? Thanks.

I have covered their app in a separate post a while ago. Probably worth revisiting. But to try and answer your questions, the Peloton at home app will give you everything you get on the bike except for a few things like the guided rides, live classes, sessions, and some others features. However, you will get everything else such as strength boxing, meditation, yoga, etc since they are not bike or treadmill specific. The app also lack a lot of the metrics you see on the bike such as power, cadence and resistance. In the app, you will only see your heart rate if you pair a heart rate monitor. The leaderboard will also be missing as well as hearting music to add to your playlist. As for running, personally I don't use their running classes that often and just like to run on Zwift. But just like the bike, you will be missing a lot of the metrics and only record your heart rate. But you should be able to listen to the instructor and follow their cues. So it will be like watching a KZbin video of someone running or cycling without any interaction. Hope that helps!

It's from three years ago but not much had changed: www.smartbiketrainers.com/hands-peloton-ios-cycling-app-4099

It’s too bad the app cannot control smart trainers. It would be great to do some classes to mix things up.

That would be nice. Or even pair to a power meter and properly record a workout.
