When I have used the Peloton and I check the rider list, I’d say it’s 75% female. I think Peloton was targeting a demographic and trying to tell men, who are in relationships with women, that it would be a great gift idea. My wife has commented she likes riding the Peloton over going to spin class because she’s self conscious and intimidated by the gym setting. With the Peloton she can ride in our home and get personal feedback from the trainers while riding. I think the criticism is from people who probably don’t have experience with the bike and the program...

I think it is great that you both have a Peleton and use it together. That's where Peleton made the mistake -- they could have sold more bikes if they would have had an ad where they had one spouse buying 2 bikes so that couples could work out together. On the other hand, as much as I love spending time with my SO, I need alone time where it is just me and the music coming through my buds.
@klausha.5949 Жыл бұрын
@@thenightporter No you are wrong the ad didnt make any mistake. The mistake is women freaking out because a company showed a woman working out with a gift received by her husband. It is nowhere implied that the woman needed to workout. The compoany wanted to connect their bike with something positive and that would be a gift in this case. You are fitness-shaming by thinking working out is something negative and something noone wants to do. You are so close minded that it didnt occur to you that there could be people who are interested in working out. I could as easily make the point that the ad discriminates men because its the woman working out while the man is lazy and does nothing

1:39 really lady? There's more to health than the size of a persons body. Maybe she wants to build endurance. Perhaps she suffers from depression and studies show that exercise is a great way to deplete that. Maybe she's training for something. Maybe she wanted to take up biking as a hobby and this bike is great for the winter. So many possibilities and you idiots only look at the way a person looks. What's insane is the same people that complain it's a skinny woman on a bike are the same people who will say that Peloton is fat shaming if it were a fat person in the commercial.

The back story on this commercial is that she had a fall while running and after surgery she was advised to take up something a little more low impact, she chose a Peloton and she asked her husband if they could afford one since most of their money goes to paying off her law degree. Of course, she could have bought it herself, but she had been saving up for something he wanted, which was a watch. He worked overtime to afford the Peloton. She was overjoyed when he presented it to her. I don't think we should judge this couple for the financial decisions they make to support themselves and not be a burden on society.

@@germanshepherdfan8901 I worked for the commercial's production company and we had many study sessions to come up with a full narrative. We vetted the story through numerous socio-economic and racial groups, changed nuances of the message to support diversity, equity, and inclusion of diverse voices including those adverse to heteronormative profiling. In the end, we felt the commercial encapsulates true freedom to express justice toward previously marginalized communities. In a sense, the commercial itself is a safe space and I encourage you to be an ally in its mission of justice.

Agreed. The ad is a bit clumsy in terms of script writing, but anyone who sees sexism in the fact that a man makes a gift to a woman and the fact that exercising tools can be gifts really projects their own thing into that. If you're truly progressive, you're probably trying to view this gender-blind. And if you do, you can't possibly see sexism in it. On the plus side, now everyone has heard of Peloton.

"If you're mad about it, you probably can't afford it." .... more offensive than the Peloton ad hahahaha. Purchasing a bike would be more cost effective.... but at-home workouts just aren't for me. I like to be live in the room with the teacher and everyone else in class.
