@@ScottRods Sweet. Do you know the model? I was a bit surprised on the current model that the rear camera cable is to short to wire into my 2 door jeep and you have to down grade the camera from 4K to 2.5K to enable Smart Driving Assistant features.

If you bought the micro SD card separately, most of them come with a card adapter. Most of your modern computers, especially laptops have a slot for full size or micro SD cards. Also keep in mind that you may have to "unmount" the sd card in settings or properly power down the unit before removing the SD card. I recommend checking your instruction / owner manual for proper removal procedure. If it does not mention a removal procedure for the card I well at least properly power down the unit before removing the card.

how did you connect the wire to the reverse light? to get the back up camera working

You don't need to connect anything, just switch it on with a swipe or a voice command. The reverse light connection just makes it automatic.

That would come in handy filming on the race track. Multiple camera angles build into the car.

@@ScottRods I have a similar camera under a different brand. Insights from the last two years: The added weight of the camera causes the mirror to move over time, especially as the mirror adjusting joints loosen; the mirror vibrates while driving impacting visibility (solved first two issues by eliminating rear view mirror and permanently mounting camera in place of mirror (added benefit of increasing difficulty to steal)); reflections make using it in camera mode impossible while driving (has to be used screen off to avoid double image); solved difficult to access sd card by mounting a short card reader extension on the back of the camera facing down; my camera lets me connect to a computer via the usb power port. Additionally, you provided the Internet with the exact Latitude and Longitude of your driveway while showing the GPS screen. Not sure if you’re concerned about your privacy, just want to make sure you’re aware.

That's a fair question. I don't think there would be any issues. The front camera does swivel, and it quite a wide angle, so should pick up everything you need to see. In fact, it's probably better as you won't have the sun visor problem.

I just got this dashcam. It has a rear camera that works, but I don't have the F/R option on the main menu to switch between front and rear cameras. Why is mine slightly different?

All this technology is interesting but I wouldn’t have the patience for getting it hooked up pressing the buttons is a mental nightmare for me I’m glad you have the patience to get it done and you did a fabulous job with it!!!!!

Thanks for the great review. I have the camera and still learned a lot. My camera is not turning off automatically when my car shuts off (learned the hard way with a dead battery). I’ve changed the settings, but it doesn’t seem to help. Did you have any issues with that? I don’t like have to remember to unplug it every time because I know I will forget sometimes

Do you have another 12v plug in your car? I think this camera is designed for cars with a plug that is not powered when you switch off the car and remove the key. You might have another plug that is not powered with ignition off.

My wife got me this for Christmas of 2022 but I ended up selling the vehicle I wanted to install it on so I held on to it. Fast forward to today 7-7-2023. I finally opened it and right away noticed that the connection on mirror which connects the cigarette charger has a USB type c but the connection but I got a cigarette charger with a mini USB. Smh unbelievable!!!

Only when it's plugged in. I think there might be an option to hard wire it, which would mean it was always recording. Or, if your 12v supply was always live.

For fingerprints, find an oleophobic (fingerprint resistant) plastic film type of screen protector that you can trim to size and put it on the mirror. Now that I think about it that might be a good idea for regular rear view mirrors. That's a good life hack for you. Feel free to use that in a life hack video. I only ask that you please give me credit for the idea. I haven't heard of that anywhere else.

Commenting on the image quality only (after all that's what you have an "evidence gathering" camera for), I could not make out any of the license plates on broad day light and on the night shots, the Carmichael Van was 85% viewable. Would this be enough to find an assailant on a hit & run? I'm not sure most cameras are. But for establishing fault when you do have their plate number, sure. None of this takes away from your work reviewing the product, nicely done.

I think the main reason for all these budget dashcams is to record what happened during an incident, not necessarily to prove who. There’s plenty of other cctv out there to tie someone to a crime.
